Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Fueling boxes on ETC and ETH engines

I dont think this topic has been brought up in a while,

but if someone was to install a Edge Comp, TST PM3 or FMS on a

stock 235 auto ISB what would it dyno at? I am not asking for exact numbers just area.



Now, install that same box on a 245 HO engine and what kind of numbers would this fueling box generate on the dyno?



Not looking for a war of boxes, just want to know how each of these engines reacts to electronic fueling enhancements, without upgraded injectors.

Justin,the Edge Comp is in a different catagory,IMO. It adds timing,and fueling thru the Can- bus signal,the others do not. Even if the PM3,and blue chip FMS could make the same power #'s the comp, they comp would do it with less EGT's,better spool up,and low end power. On the ETH,the comp would put out much more power than the others,since ETH's do not respond well to pump wire taps. On the ETC the power gains should be real close with all 3 boxes,but again the comp wil do it with less EGTS and more low end. I have the Edge Drag comp and love it,I have driven ETC trucks similarly modified with the PM3,and blue chip,those boxes really put out the power too,but there is a bigger delay before full power is reached than with my truck.

Due to some controversy as to power gains obtained from the Edge Comp on ETC vs ETH engines - plus curiosity as to possible Comp models designed specifically for each engine type, I Emailed the folks at Edge and asked exactly what typical max power differences were - and whether there IS a different Comp for the 2 engine types... Here's the reply I got:



"Gary,

There isn't a difference in boxes. There is just one comp. The results

vary with the two engines. On the ETH you will see 90 peak horse power, and

on the ETC you will see 75 peak horse power. Hope this helps. Let us know.

There ya have it - right from the folks who design and manufacture them...

Gary,that power gain is not for the Comp,I seen 120 hp gain on the dyno with the standard comp. I havent dyno'd yet with the drag comp.

I consistantly see 125 rwhp with a comp box. This is on ETC trucks with performance injectors.



On my truck the comp produces 200 rwhp



These figures were obtained on dynojet dynos.

On my truck COMP was worth 160hp. But thats with injectors on my ETC.



When you slap a COMP on an ETC you'll get bout 320hp or so.



When the COMP is slapped on the ETH you get 280 to 290 or so.

HEY, don't argue with ME~ the info I printed was DIRECT from Edge themselves - was it for the Comp?



Well, lets read AGAIN:

Dunno how YOU fellas read that - but it sure looks to ME like he was explicitly referring to the Comp as installed (presumably) on otherwise stock ETC/ETH engines... But perhaps someone will point out in the above quote where he was referring to either another Edge box, or different engine type?



Like I said, don't shoot the messenger - the above info came direct from Edge themselves...

I think Edge has it backwards, ETC should be 90hp and the ETH should be 75hp. The ETH doesent respond as well the box as does the ETC.

Gary,im not arguing with you,just telling you what it did for my truck at the wheels. There ads claim between 120-130 hp gain,they claim 65hp for the EZ. Even the new edge pulse has a 90hp gain.

WELL, for sure, what they said to me by Email DERN SURE doesn't agree with the dyno sheets they themselves have posted over on their website for the Comp on a ETC...



Maybe one of their reps would like to pop in here and clarify what can reasonably be expected for the straight Comp on an otherwise stock ETC and also on a similar ETH?



After all, THAT'S why I directly asked them the question in the FIRST place!

I used to have a 2000 2500 ETC/DEE w/ TST PM-3. I traded for 02 3500 ETH/DEE. Installed my TST PM-3 today and I wanna tell you it goes like a scalded cat. I'm putting my 275s in next week.



I put my Scotty on today and I believe the turbo on the ETH is louder than the ETC, unless Holset forgot to install the silencer ring on my new truck.



Last week, I installed DD 2s on my friend's 01. 5 2500 ETH/DEE w/ TST PM-3 and its scary fast.







Oo.



Well, guys, no matter which way we go, we're heads and shoulders above the competition.

I need some advice. I have a 2001 QC LB, with an Auto Trans. My truck is completely stock except for the K&N filter in the stock box. I want just a little more Hp & Torque. What box do I need?

A mild set of injectors would do the job. The other thing that comes to mind is an EZ module.

CLARIFICATION from Edge...

Got this back from Edge:



Gary,

It is my mistake. I flip flopped the numbers for the different engines.

ETC = 90 hp ETH= 75. As to the different gains, were speaking primarily of

peak to peak gains, and that is what I mean by ETC 90hp, and ETH 75hp. They

will vary though. At lower rpms at times you will see greater gains. The

best we have seen overall is ETH 110 hp, and ETC 120-130 hp. Sorry about

the mix up, that is my fault. Hope this clears some of it up for you and

those out there wondering.

Looks to me like Bryce is saying that on otherwise STOCK ETC/ETH engines, the ETC will see an average of about 15 HP *more* than a ETH will - BUT, since the ETH *starts out* at 10 HP or more than the ETC to BEGIN with, that would put them pretty much EQUAL after installation of the Comp?



Of course, various additional mods will slew results all over the place...
