I have a 2000 3500 and want to upgrade to a better fuelining box but I really don't want to tap the pump wire. does anyone know of any options for high horsepower boxes with out taping the pump wire?

If you don't want to tap the pump wire, you're looking for a timing only device, such as the Edge EZ. You need to realize as well that there is only so much horsepower you're going to get out of timing improvements with no subsequent fuel addition. Thus, if "high horsepower" is what you want out of an electronic box, you need to tap the pump wire. That is not to say that gains cannot be had out of timing alone, they obviously just aren't as high as timing and fuel.

If you don't want tap the pump wire, perhaps the best BOMB you could do would be to get a CATCHER. The CATCHER is great for responsiveness and overall reliability. It is compatible with towing, easy to install, and relatively inexpensive. Do a search for CATCHER on the forums if you're interested; there's tons of information.

I would like to find out who is running a PowerMax Comp on a 24 valve and what kind of timing box they are using. That should be a rather healthy horsepower making combo. Anybody got any ideas please let me know- I'd like to try a different way other than my drag comp.

dieseldude,

I don't know your reasons but I thought the same as you back when I bought my EZ. After getting used to the EZ I added 275 injectors and got used to that and desired more. I ended up selling the EZ and bought a comp. Save yourself some money and buy an adjustable box now. You don't have to hook up the wire now but you might want down the road sometime.

Just food for thought,

Bob

If you really don't want to tap the wire, buy a comp, (for future use of the pump wire) and some larger injectors. You can have the timing and the fuel without tapping the wire this way.

whats the difference between the comp, drag comp, and the tst powermax?

what are the chances of causing a problem by taping the wire?

what kind of horse power gains are we talking about?

I did look into the catcher but was a little learry about spending that kind of money on one reflash what happens if something goes wrong and you need it to be reflahed again? do you spend another $500 or will they do it for you again?
It is starting to look like I am just going to have to bite the bullet and tap the wire because I know me and if a box has potential I am going to want to use every bit of it

Why not get bigger injectors? Don M's Mach 3. 8 are all the rage right now. That should be about 100 HP more than you have now. Of course you'll want to complete your transmission upgrade first ;)

You may void your warranty (if you care about that sort of thing)

You may cause your VP44 to die faster than it normally would

You WILL experience many :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I have had my current set up with wire tapped for 40,000 trouble free miles now.

He has a hot rod vp-44, thats why the questions.

Tapping the pump wire increases voltage to the soeldenoid (?) in the pump to raise the amount of fuel added. The question is how will this affect HIS pump, and with his pump are there ways around it? Also, he has 275's already (I installed them, they run nice!). So, other than a catcher, I know some of you guys are running respectable power with unmolested pump wires. BTY - warranty is no issue, 140k (right?) on the ticker. We got to get this guy some power! Brett can chime in here at any time . . . .

135k but close enough!!:-laf I would like to believe that the hot rod would be less likely to burning up do to the upgraded electronics but I want to be sure that I don't waist my money and screw up my pump!!

Can't belive that the bigger TsTs, the 3 and CE don't have any timing

The best non timing box I have seen is the bluechip redline. It fuels all the way to 4000, team this with a regular catcher and you have full spectrum fuel, and a thin wallet! or you could just use an EZ or puck

why don't you just do a big set of injectors

the problem with the bluechip redline box is that you have to do some valvetrain work and just the springs that I looked at were 650 plus shipping. I have been told that the piston begin to contact the valves at 3400 rpm's. when you add that all up it is a lot of money.
bluechip redline: $1495, just valvesprings $650, that puts you over $2000 plus any thing else that you might do to make evrey thing run better
