48re Accelerates When Engaged in Drive and Reverse

David, I could come haul you to my place and help you drop the tank if that will help. I am tied up tomorrow but could be there about 7 am Wednesday. The Raptor that I installed used the factory lines.

Thanks Nick. The Module will not be here till Wednesday some time. There is an RV park over by you, know anything about it ?. The truck is driveable for about 20 miles a clip then I have to pull over and blow back in the line for another 20 miles. I can handle that if I am coming to you. Ideally I would bring the RV to the RV park and do the tank at your place which may make the tank on Saturday or so. I will do some checking on the park.

That's the right place. I completely understand your reluctance to have someone else touch the truck, I'm the same way. I always feel like I pay more attention to detail than a shop would, but if I needed a shop in Flag I would start there. The shop isn't much to look at but they've been around forever.

The back story to that recommendation is that my high school auto shop teacher essentially got me that job, he STILL uses them 30+ years later. The teacher was/is more than capable as he worked as a mechanic for years and he trusts them. The lunch visit I was referring to was with my auto shop teacher and the owner of R&R.

Nick, looks like it is Putters Paradise in Snowflake. Close to you ?.

Yes, it is only about 10 miles, no clue if there are openings. I have a dump station here and power if you don't mind dogs and potbelly pigs:D I think I am on your route to Minot so you would be getting closer. I might have a portable sawmill here this weekend, but only one day. I need to call my son and check on that. Other than that, I am mostly wide open as far as availability. I can usually schedule my deliveries out a bit.

Let me check the putter availability. Don't mind the dogs (Have a German Sheppard) or pigs. I would not think pulling the tank and installing the module would take more than 4-6hrs. Two straps and a few fuel lines. That's as long as Murphy is at the golf course and not with us.

Okay, we will stay in touch then. I go to bed super early but get up the same way, so I will check in the morning. If something goes south on your trip here I can still come get you so don't worry about that. We also have a lot of room here so you are welcome, RV and all. The only thing I don't have is a fifth wheel hitch.

Thanks a lot Nick. Same way, early to bed maybe up early. I will get the truck there. Probably will not know about the putter till mid morning. Thinking I would rather be at your place as it would make everything easier. We will see.

It’s sounding like a tank/module issue.

Do you run a lot of bio?

Never, just what is added to the diesel fuel here in Az. I have not seen straight diesel in a very long time. I do run Power Service in every tank and have since new in 99. Maybe that ethanol has finally taken it's toll, the module has taken 20 years of that stuff.

Update 6/5/19. Added the biocide yesterday, a large shock treatment 1oz. to 10-15 gallons. Blew out the fuel line 10psi showing but did not drive to mix it up. Went for a drive, 0psi within 8 miles. Pulled onto the shoulder ( I spend a lot of time there these days ). Blew back the line and heard and felt a very distinct thud like a golf ball shooting out. Started truck 13psi idle, best so far. Drove 30 miles mostly around 65mph at 10 psi. Stopped at Napa and picked up some 5/16 and 3/8 fuel line, thinking that while the tank is down I may just replace the factory line that goes from a flexible section to the steel line as maybe that is causing or will in the future being 20 years old. Guess I will hook up the mechanical gauge on the dirty side again and check the differential since the Power Service fuel conditioner/slime remover and biocide.

Given that you said you have fuel issues years ago and maybe now again, and you have an extra 40 gals in the bed, I would suggest using a biocide routinely, especially if you do not routinely drive it a lot, and/or the fuel sit in the tanks all winter. With the two Cummins is the boat, I always added Bioguard on the last fueling at the end of summer, as the 200 gals was going to set all winter in the tanks. Never had a fuel issue in 19 years.
