I am experiencing some interesting fueling scenarios right now. After reading some of the threads about the pressure relief valve, my curiosity is aroused.

When I start to get on it pretty hard, it acts like all of a sudden the timing is changed and it just starts to ROLL out black smoke and the egts rise drastically, This only happens during hard acceleration. I don't know if the valve is weak and the ECM is retarding timing or if I am looking at an entire different problem.

Secondly, I keep reading about a new modified fuel rail, but don't know where to find it. Any information would be helpful.

I have not heard anything about a modified fuel rail but I did talk to A. T. S. about their mod cp3 kit and have got 4 diffferent answers from 4 different people about what the kit comes with as 1 guy said it did come with a new rail and valve another said only a valve, another guy said a no valve and another guy said you can modify the valve by stacking washers behind it(sounds a little scary)but he said you have to make sure there is room for movement or it could explode. I will have a new valve to look at in a couple days.

I think it is the ATS cp3 kit that I am referring to. I'm not sure what the problem is, I can roll into the throttle, and it just belches out black smoke and I can feel a loss in power when this happens. There are 8 different codes when I do the key check, so I need to go find them.

I think the less pressure you have at the injectors the later it fires making more heat and smoke go out the exhaust valves . I think it can make more boost as well but way less power. My truck made the least amont of egt when it was brand new.

I had a similar problem. Once I installed the rotteck sensor and advanced the timing ~2 deg the black smoke went away. Today I set the sensor back to ~0 deg and the black smoke is back. Not sure what is causing it but it appears to be somehow related to timing.
