I just drove my truck home from Phoenix where Fred Swanson of Desert Diesel Parts installed a full DTT transmission on my truck. This is the second truck that Fred has done for me and his work is impeccable!
Gone is the SLUSH torque converter that basically eliminated the power gains available with the TST, gone are the drawn out shifts, gone are the 1,2,1,2,1,2,1 shifts, gone is the 3rd-Overdrive lurch!
Now, I have nice quick shifts, Not bang shifts! Properly spaced shifts...
The best part ??? Now with the TST on 4x4 the power is being put to the ground! it is an unbelievable difference. The contrast between the stock torque converter and the DTT converter is night and day. :--)
Also, I can say that my MPG has improved by 2 mpg. Identical route before and after, tank topped at each end and hand calculated :-laf
I also went with a billet input and billet flex plate for piece of mind
In deciding where to spend this kind of money, the decision was an easy one for me. My DTT that Fred installed in my '01 took an incredible beating and handled everything I put to that truck. It was highly modified, cam, injectors blah, blah, blah...
Fred showed me the things that are improved in the 48re and the things that needed to be improved upon in the transmission. The 48re is better than the 47re, but just like anything else if you want to play (add horsepower) you have got to pay...
Thanks DTT and Fred Swanson at Desert Diesel Parts!
