I'm going to trade a friend a full fluid change for some help on a roof repair.

He has an 2004 4x4 auto. He's going to synthetics in the differentials and the transfer case. Were still trying to decide if it is worth it to go synthetics in the transmission. Any thoughts? He tows a 6000 lb. trailer occasionally. He has a Smarty Jr. on the tow setting. The other thing were trying to decide is, is it worth it putting a transmission temperature gauge in? Any one out there with an 04 have a gauge installed or has anybody had any transmission temperature concerns on an 04. Thanks, Jeff

Trucks come from the factory with synthetic in the transmission so I would go with that. Plus a deep or double deep pan is a nice add on as it increases capacity and helps cool the transmission, plus much easier to drain the fluid before you drop the pan on future fluid changes as these pans have drain plugs. Make sure you change the transmission filter also. I use the Mag Hytec DD pan which adds 4 qts capacity. Temp guage is nice to have as it will alert you of a problem before you toast the transmission. If you do install a guage the probe should be on the output line to the cooler as this is the hottest point to read.
