John, I know I won't be the only one looking forward to hearing what comes out of The Powershop test. It should be interesting to see how it fits in what all the other information we have. You know there will be more questions when the data comes out. #ad

Was your comment about the lift pump, rpms/road speed directed more toward Ron rather than myself? I don't think I implied the lift pump was of little or no use at higher speeds. I don't have enough information to reach that conclusion. My thinking was, at least in your case, that the pre-pump in the injector may have had enough umph to make up the difference of the lower output from your failing lift pump. Another thing I don't know, and I haven't seen anyone publish, is how much fuel needs to be delivered to the injector pump system. I hope this comes out in The Powershop test.

I'd like to think my comments, using scientific principles to link what appears to be contradictory data that was presented on this forum, were taken in the positive way they were intended. They were meant to provide a different view from someone with no vested interest.

I haven't looked at any information concerning injector pump failures and/or lift pumps. I know it happens, but that's it. I don't feel I can make a meaningful comment on the subject.

Rattlin, further (on road) testing will be conducted by The PowerShop shortly with the use of flow test equipment. This testing will reveal factual (real world) data that will actually be useful... unlike the static testing done by Ashland Technologies.

Just about everyone acknowledges the Cummins lift pump is marginal (by design) AT BEST! When a marginal functioning lift pump is utilized in an extreme situation, such as towing at GCVWR... this is where the injection pumps have been failing (on UNmodified as well as modified 24v Rams). Facts and data have been outlined in the upcoming two part Western RV column.

I'm not buying the theory that after a certain RPM or road speed the lift pump does not have ANY function. I think enough data collected by The PowerShop has substantiated this.

Evan, you certainly like stiring the pot #ad

!!

I was hoping that one of those expressing an interest in performing their own test would have done so by now and posted their results.

One can hope. #ad

And back to the top.
