Most of you bought the crew cab version in these trucks, if you dont like it so much why'd you buy it. Thats how chysler thinks.

BTW, ford loses money with all those damn set-ups they have for there trucks

Chysler simply cant afford to lose there ass like ford can

Saw a report a few years back on the discontinuation of the Excursion. Line was converted over to crewcabs. The profit margin was even larger than the Excursion. No one can afford to lose money on popular vehicles.

I would not buy a crew cab. Don't want a truck that big, and I like mine just the way it is? I really doubt that Dodge would build the current quad cab and a full size crew cab. They would just be competing with themselves.

I believe he was refering to the multiple lines like:

F-350/450/550/650/750

that is quite e few lines to make and manage

why spend the $$$ it takes to develop a Super Crew whatever, when what you have is making tons of $$$$.

A few good reasons to produce a larger cab would be found in the principles of business competition and market flow. And, I want a larger cab that will better accommodate my needs.

For now the cummins is keeping me with DC. Thats just for now. ('')

(sarcastic)

It's been mentioned before, but having been in the manufacturing industry nearly 20 years (working promarily on process improvement and cost reduction) DC decided to keep things very simple to minimize inventories and tooling. They can build their entire line of trucks on just three wheel bases. Ford needs 7 to do theirs (and I believe that's just for the 250 & 350!) Keeping it simple does make things more cost effective.

Now, as for the comments that they are making ton's of $$$$, none of the Big three is making a lot of money (and haven't for the last few years. What each of them is trying to do is keep (or slightly increase) their market share by practically giving cars away.

Many '05's (not Rams) are starting to hit the dealer's lots with fairly large rebates already. There is a principle in this business of cutting the price "but we'll make it up in volume". It doesn't really work if your income is less that your expenses, though.

Just look at the state of our airlines!

True. Building a larger truck would require a complete retooling, and would ultimately require a seperate plant, or spending moeny. DC will never be able to compete with Ford and GM unless they develop the products that the commercial industry DEMANDS. Ever notice what chassis 90% of utility truck bodies are sitting on:rolleyes: ??

IF DC were smart, they would turn over production of the crew cab and 4500/5500/6500 to Freightliner.

Thhis may complete BS, but a buddy told me years ago that FORD bought Cummins and part of there agrement to let dodge keep using cummins motors was to agree not to make a true crew cab. This info is totally unbased in fact, but I have heard 2 similar versions from totally seperate rumor mills.

Is any of that close to reality? I have no idea.
