Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Fumoto or EZ change

Thinking of getting a drain valve and wanted to see what people thought about both of the ones from Geno's website. The Fumoto finger touch valve is nice but I am concerned because it will hang down below the oil pan quite a bit. The EZ change looks better as far as it protruding from the bottom of the pan but I'm not sure I like the way that valve works, might trap stuff? I would for sure like to go with the Fumoto valve but like I said, not sure about it hanging down that far.

I have had the EZ change on since it was new and love it for changing oil. Got it from Genos way back when. Works great, never had a problem. Oo.

Well I feel compelled to put in my 0. 02 worth. I have often considered those myself but I am not convinced they will drain the oil from the very bottom of the pan. This could eventually lead to sludge build up. The reason I say this is the adapter appears to protrude quite a way up inside of the oil pan instead of being flush with the pan bottom.

If you are only referring to the EZ change drain, I agree. That was another thing I was concerned about. I'm not sure if the Fumoto finger touch valves protrude into the pan that much or not.



It does sound like everyone who has one likes them though. No problems with them leaking at all? How tight do you torque it down when you install it?

Cant remember the torque setting to install it to. Lost the literature over the last 4 years :-laf :-laf :-laf



But it does come with it when purchased new

I too was concerned about that so I pulled mine out soon after I installed it to check. It drains all but maybe a dixie cup. 2-3ozs. I figured when your putting in 11 qts that 2-3 ozs. wasn't too darn bad. I change my oil every 5000 so I feel pretty good about it FWIW. .

I have the Fumoto valve on both my Dodge and Ford. On both vechicles it does not stick down far enough below pan to get caught by anything. If you are worried about the tiny bit of oil that does not get drained out then do with I did. Measure up inside the oil pan and see where the bottom actuall is. Measure up the same amount on the thread of the fumoto valve and drill 4 small holes in the threads. That why the "rest of the oil" can drain out. Actually there is a thread about this very subject for years ago and there where pictures in one of the TDR mags.

I bought a Fumoto for my dad and he loves it... as far as it sticking down, in a 4wd, you'd peel the front axle off the truck if you got that close...



I didn't like the e-z because of the way it was designed... looked like it might not seal if a small piece of dirt got wedged in there... the fumoto is basically a positive locking quarter-turn ballvalve.



I'm going to buy a Fumoto for my next oil change...

I had some bad luck with the fumoto on my bosses beetle I installed a aluminum skid plate and the first problem I had was it came loose then I had to tighten it up real tight to just barely miss the skid plate. Start it up check for leaks and it looks great, take it on test drive and when I let the clutch out the motor torqued on the motor mounts and the valve hit the skid plate opening it and draining it all over the road! No more fumotos for me. I guess if you had a four wheel it would not matter but I would not take the chance if you off road or drive your truck through the pasture alot.

I will be putting the fumoto on next oil change, i. e. 300 more miles.



PS: don't put it in a VW bettle.

Had a Fumoto valve for almost 60000mi. , and no issues whatsoever. Makes oil changes so easy, and you do not need the engine to cool down. It is very well made and I heard it is widely used on a lot of the bigger trucks.
