This is not a problem but I like to know why things happen. When the engine is not running if I step on the gas pedal (Iknow I know) it has a very firm resistance and then moves suddenly like an over center problem with the linkage. When the engine is running that hard spot goes away completly and its smooth as silk. Why it do that?

I had the same question myself. It's that mystery box, your injector pump. I have never been able to find a diagram of the inside but I know that when it's rotating the fuel lever moves easily and when it is standing still it sort of binds. Someone that knows the inside of the Bosch can probably answer much better than me.

Get it going about 45MPH in OD. Then ease down on the go pedal. Unless you've modified the fueling, you will feel that same stop not too far down. And the stop will move farther away as the boost rises.

The stop is the P7100 limiting the fuel rack travel, thus limiting the amount of fuel allowed into the engine. I would guess that the 7100 'knows' not to let any fuel into the engine when it ain't running. #ad


On my '98, I've found that pushing the pedal past the breakover point yields slightly less power than keeping the pedal right before breakover. Is this adjustable? (That is, adjustable whilst *maintaining* stock smoke control?)

I thought something was wrong when I installed my first plate because of the funny feeling pedal when I was trying to get it started. once the diesel made its way back into the pump she started and the pedal was normal again WHOOO!

As the rack travels the pump cylinders rotate to vary the volume of fuel pumped, when the rack is moved while the engine is not running the fuel has no where to go due to the pump not rotating and reciprocating the pumps pistons. It all has to do with port placement in the pump.
