I run a Cobra 25 CB Radio in my truck, with dual 48 inch fiberglass antennas in the bed. CB works really well, but I wanted to be able to talk to the next town :p. I ran across a 400A linear amplifier that my dad had in our shop. Well, time for some fun :D.

I mounted the amplifier under the hood on the passenger side, and hooked it up. Turned it on and everything worked just fine.

Although I had to crank the truck to keep it from draining the batteries. It's HUGE! (Built for 18 wheelers)

Well, I got on the road and headed for town where I met a buddy of mine. I wanted to see just how far this thing would talk. I started my truck, turned on my CB and started to drive off. He came on the radio and asked if I could hear him, I was about ten miles away by now. That's when the funny thing happened. I keyed up the Microphone and my truck stumbled(dead miss) and the gauges all went to Zero . I keyed up again and the truck completely died. Well, I had to take the amp back out. It was killing my computer.

Sorry for being so long. I just thought I'd pass it along in case anyone ever thought of putting an amp that big in their truck. IT WON'T WORK! I just had to laugh the whole way home. When my friend met up with me, it cracked him up too.

It will work. Sometimes it depends on how you hook it up. In my truck the middle driver is bigger than your 400 and never a miss or problem with the truck:D A better place for the amp is under the back seat, just bring the power wire in through the knock out plug under the jack. Its far enough away from the trucks electrics to work just fine. Plus the amp is not water proof at all, really needs to be in the cab... ... ... ..... Pete
