Hello all,

It's been a while since my last post, but I was wondering if anyone might have an idea as what could be causing a "clanging" sort of a sound under my truck? This happens when I'm braking and go over a sharp bump or crack in the road, and I some times feel a vibration in the brake pedal at the same time. To me, it sounds as though the transmission was loose at the mounts and the transmission was coming up and down when hitting these bumps under braking and causing the "clang" sound--I do notice my transfer case shifter (floor mounted) moves a bit while driving. This has been going on for a long time now, I think almost since new. I did take it in to the dealer and they said all was fine but, obviously, it is not. If any of you out there have any idea what could be causing this sound, or have had similar issues, please let me know how to correct this as I find it very annoying. I would really appreciate any help.

Regards,

Joe. :)

I seriously doubt the transmission is about to fall off. A "clang" makes me think of a heat sheild on the fuel tank may be loose, or the exhaust is hitting something. The shifter shaking down the highway and moving under torque is normal. You are going to have to crawl under the truck and check for loose parts.

Hope it helps!:)

Thanks for the help. I don't think it's a heat shield,exhaust, or something like that making the noise--it sounds and feels like something heavy is moving underneath. I'll look under the truck again, but for some reason I get the feeling it may be coming from the drive train some where.

I recently had the same issue as you- a noticeable metal on metal banging noise, only at the last few feet of a stop sign or light. So I pulled it into the garage, got underneath, and there it was- a loose muffler clamp where the tailpipe meets my straight pipe. I am my own warranty station. ;) I tightened it, tested it, no more noise. Until yesterday, when I backed into a snowbank and loosened it worse than before. :eek: . I am my own warranty station:{
