While driving the engine died. Had the truck towed to a dealer out of town. $250 later they replace fuse #9 'engine'. On the way home the same thing happened, this time I just replaced the fuse on the side of the road. Nothing has been done to the truck recently... . any ideas what would be causing the fuse to blow. I work out of town and don't have my shop manual with me.

Not sure what one 9 is but sounds like you have a short somewhere, find out what one 9 is and follow the wires and look for the short, i bet it is something easy to fix just need to find it.

keep us posted on what you find

All I know is that fuze #9 Is the poor mans kill the truck trick, meaning that when I leave my truck someplace that im not sure of, I pull fuze 9 and the truck will crank but not start.

Thats The Fuse That My Blue Box Had To Be Hooked To Also Not Sure Why But The Directions Said Make Sure The Red Wire Is On Fuse #9.

Make sure one of the connectors under the dash isn't grounding on a screw... I had a tech simply "loop" the diagnostic connecter over a screw point... it would occasionally ground and blow a fuse...

Finding out what #9 does, then tracing it, is probably the best procedure to start with...
