How does one decide what size fuse to use with added lights? I am adding lights to my running boards and a couple others, these are lights that match the side marker lights on a 2nd gen 3500, 2 bulbs per light. so 42 bulbs total. Just to try them out I now have a 15 amp in them.

Do you know how many watts they are? If you know the total, then devide that by 12 (volts) and you'll have how many amps they pull.



amps=watts/volts

The gauge and length of the conductors in the circuit will determine the fuse used to protect the circuit. The current (amps from Brian's equation) and length of the circuit will determine the minimum wire gauge.
