Hey guys, On my way out to Mt. I lost power to the ac, heater fan unit & PW's on both sides. I checked the fuse block. I found no power to the block that handeles that grid section to that block. I would assume that its on a fused link in the main wiring harness. Anyone know what color code it is ? For now I'm getting power to the block via another hd wire with a inline 30 amp fuse to get power to the block. Since its going to be very nasty weather this weekend < sub 0 > Billings, Mt. I'll be headed back south after I get the NV4500 installed It sould be done tomorrow. Thanks in advance, Mike

There is a fuse link (one of many) for the power windows and fan, it is located near the two large relays for the intake heat. I am at work, and the service manual is at home so I can't tell you the wire code. Try gently stretching each fuse link, if it is burnt out it will come appart. Need more help, email me at the address in the signature and I will check the service manual electrical drawings for you.

Checked the service manual, the circuit that goes to the power windows and heater also goes through the ignition switch. The path is battery, fuse link, wire# A2 12PK/BK,ignition switch, wire# A22 12BK/OR, fuse block. Fuse 11 is the heater and AC, fuse 12 is the windows. You should have power up to the fuse block only when the ignition switch is in the run position.

I had exactly the same problem on my 89 last summer. Look for my post (about a month ago) "Accessory relay location". I was not getting power to the windows and the blower motor. Pep Boys sold me an accessory relay, but for the life of me, I could not locate this component on the truck. I ended up doing a shade tree mechanic fix which involved wiring a relay from the battery, to the bus bar in the fuse box which powers the windows and blower motor. The relay is commanded on from an adjacent bus which powers fuses # 4,5,&6. I don't like to Afro-engineer, but I've been driving the truck like this for over six months now, without any problems. I sure am interested in where this fusable link is located, maybe I can fix it correctly.

Hey guys, Thanks for the info !! As soon as I get out of this #$%$ snow I'll check the links. If I locate the problem fine if not once I get back to sunny Fla I'll get my mobile guy to get the power back to the buss bar. I as well hate to jerry rig... ... ..... but I was in 20 deg. weather when I found out it was toasted. Sucks not having heat #ad
Thanks for the info on the wiring Neil. Best regards, Mike

I checked all of the fusable links right next to the relays to the grid heaters, and found I was getting power through all of them. The 12PK/BK wire Etobicoke identified, is that a 12 guage Pink and Black? I found a pink or light red colored wire, and I was getting power through this fusable link. I believe I am getting power to the ignition switch on this wire, but one of the contacts inside the switch is not allowing current to flow to the Fan/Power window bus when the key is in the RUN position (or any other position). That ignition switch is literally burried up under that dashboard, I don't think I want to attempt changing it out. Besides, my shade tree relay modification works just fine.

DJP sound as if you have found a good solution for the problem. The part of the ignition switch that is for the windows, heat and AC only works in the run position, this would be I assume to prevent battery drain in the accessory position and start position. I have always had a habbit of turning of the AC/heat before shutting down the engine, but of course you and David/Mike probably have considerably more hours on your truck than I do. I would say that they should have had a relay in place when the truck was built, concidering the amount of current that these devices draw.
