The stock wiring harness on my 2001. 5 3500 sweems to use a 40A fuse for the B+ for the brake controller. In the past I've always had a auto-resetting circuit breaker for this circuit. How many folks use the stock harness vs a direct wire to the battery with a circuit breaker. I'm installing an new Jordan Ultima and want to keep my Tekonsha for backup. If I use the stock wiring harness for both it would be easy to switch.

I'm using the stock wiring. It's always been up to the task. I blew the 40 amp fuse when I installed my controller in my current truck (wired it up wrong, went color-to-color instead of checking the wiring diagram)but I found a replacement at Auto Zone. I'm an old conservative who thinks the less you customize your rig, the less trouble you'll have with it.

I have seen the plug in style breakers, could you replace the fuse with a circut breaker style fuse??

I use the supplied wireing and connection. Easy to connect or disconnect. I have the same controllers and can not get either one to lock the wheels. I may have to check out the wireing from the PU as the old controller on the 97 would skid on pavement it set to high but when I use it on the 2001. 5 it will not do that.

The wiring instructions for the Teknosha Prodigy calls for a auto reset circuit breaker of 20 amps.

A little research indicates 20 amps is for 1-2 axle, 30 amps for 3-4 axles. 40 amps seems excessive.

My old Kelsey was also wired in with a 20amp circuit breaker. Seems to be a reason for it. Don't know why... . guess I would follow the instructions for your Ultima.
