European demand for diesel, produced by further refining heating oil, has jumped as much as five percent this year as drivers in France, Germany and Italy use it as an alternative to gasoline.

While the trend has boosted Europe's capacity to export its surplus gasoline to the United States, keeping pump prices in check, it is expected to crimp U. S. ability to find reliable heating oil imports, particularly from Russia, in the event of a supply crunch.

Good for us CTD guys or Bad

I'm thinking the trucking industry might be able to fight off higher diesel prices to some extent, buy gasoline users are just at the mercy of the oil companies. A few years ago, the railroad I work for told us how many thousands of independent truckers folded with every 5 cent increase in the price of fuel. Might be able to ride their coat tails & take advantage of what ever influence they have for keeping prices within reason in the future?

It isn't just diesel - the refining of diesel fuel is closely linked to that of gasoline - and it's pretty hard for refiners to indiscriminently manipulate diesel prices as compared to other fuels, without raising all sorts of eyebrows...

Of course, all the above flies out the window, when a little $$$ is slipped into the right hands under the table... ;)
