A Bad Day

Ok so I lifted the front end 2" and changed shocks to Rancho 9000's

Tried all the settings and I am still getting worked over pretty bad on the fwy. uuh uuh uuh uuh (know what I mean?)

Short of carying 900#'s in my bed any ideas??

I know exactly what you mean.

What settings are you using on the fronts and rears? I think I ended up at about 5F+6R. There's really only one or two settings that work. You're either underdamped and it keeps vibrating forever after you hit a bump or you are overdamped and everything feels harsh. But all you can hope to do is make it better, it's never going to feel great. I've even had custom spring pack work done and the 405S near the 101 still makes me go uuh uuh uuh uuh. Of course, I was riding that particular stretch of road in my Lexus once and pulled over to check the tires because I thought I had a flat.

Since you have a 4x4 you might try the Lorenz Dual Purpose Leafs:

Leaf Springs

They won't fit my 2wd or I would have tried them by now, but my custom spring pack is probably a close approximation, and it does help.

What part of L. A. are you based out of? I'm between Santa Clarita and Palmdale.

Mostly you are just cursed by where you live. We visit my dad in Indio every winter and make the pilgrimage to Disney everytime. The highways on the way in to LA beat the tar out of me in the truck.

I personally would never have chosen the Rancho's, I don't think they make very good shocks. I would have gone with the Bilstiens for sure, I've had them on many vehicles and always liked them. They were mandatory on my Isuzu-max trucks because the stock shocks are sooooo bad on those trucks.

Wieght in the bed would surely help too.

Expansion joints

My Lorenz mini-paks and custom valved SAW shocks have minimized the expansion joint irritation for me. My truck empty with stock springs and shocks beat me to death around here. Carrying a simple conversation was impossible in the cab. I'm running 75 psi with the camper too. All the manufacturer's mini-paks should improve your ride.

Yeah I have heard that spring packs will help but $$$$$. .

I am leaning towards some Velvet Ride or Sulastic Spring shackels. they are suposed to be just for my problem and around $290. Any feedback?

I live on the Cahuenca Pass between Hollywierd and studio City but my horses are out in the Antelope Valley...

Be glade you didn't buy the Beilstiens, they are much rougher then the Rancho's. You can try to soften the blow by lowering the front and rear tire pressures, a little goes a long way here.

The BFG Velvet Ride rear shackles do work, I've had mine for almost 8 years now, and I even re-used them when I switched over to the Skyjacker rear leafs just this spring. They help take the slap out of the rear suspension when you hit the small bumps. Another great trick is to remove the over load leafs or the stops they hit. This gives a much nicer ride. If you tow, then just remove the over load spring pack and mount up a set of air bags, these do wonders for a much smoother ride.

My coworker has the sulastic shackles on his duramax and said he couldn't feel any difference. He now has a 500lb steel plate between his bed liner and bed mat in addition to the shakles. Now it rides like a half ton.

Drury: Thanks for the test drive! What a truck!!!!! Mine will be close some day$$$$$$. . Man! that thing Hauls Donkey!!Thanks again for letting me drive your baby!

i "cured" my exp-joint problem with Carli's progressive front springs, an overload replacement mini-pack and a set of remote Billstiens. I have air bags for towing.
