for anyone interested
swapped a '96 c/c 80 in place of an '01 drum braked 70
shortened driveshaft 1 3/16" (can't remember who gave me that #, but thanks)
had to get 4" u-bolts ... i used 3rd gen top plates and round u bolts ... cleaner look
had to cut and reweld the pass side shock mount to front of axle ... ah la '01
now for the biggie ...
the cab and chassis 80 is two inches NARROWER than the '01 drum braked 70 ... narrower where the tires mount ... ie; the tires sit IN 1 inch closer to the springs ...
everyone told me it would be 1 inch wider and with a dually from a truck with a bed it would be ...
i was pleasantly suprised as i will be getting a set of 33x12. 50's when the third gen stockers wear out
and everyone warned that 2nd gen aluminum rims wouldn't fit ... but there is alot of room between THESE drums and the 17 inch third gen rims i'm running
1 hour to take 70 out ...
4 hours back in ...
worthwhile saturday project ...
