Again, based on the evidence in UOAs of CJ-4 oil, there appears to be no significant difference running CI-4 over CJ-4... and I believe the numbers more than hearsay. The numbers don't have an agenda, and they have no reason to make stuff up.

I believe the folks that like the CJ oil and are happy with it are lucky to have plenty of choises. I just don't like it and don't plan on running it as long as CI oil is available. Folks tell me ULSD is just as good or better than LSD but I'm going to keep running the $. 10 a gal cheaper LSD until is no longer available.

That's cool, life is about choices ... ... ..... just don't be afraid of it because your buddy heard, that somebody said etc etc, ... ... ..... you get the picture.

Someone made a good comment on the LSD/ULSD a couple days ago... seems that "raw" LSD can have a wear scar similar to "additized" ULSD... he stated the wear scar of the LSD delivered to his farm was marked on the delivery sheet... 518 IIRC??

This is another one of those "ah-ha" findings...

FYI, My NAPA can finally get the Premium BLue Classic oil HOWEVER, they said I must buy 275 minimum gallons for them to order it for me... at 14. 95 PER GALLON. Doesn't sound right... If anyone wants to go in on it with me I would do it... . Maybe if enough people want it I guess.

At nearly $15/gallon, that's nearly double what rotella CJ-4 goes for near my parents (not near me however)... you could buy CJ-4 Rotella and change twice as often for the same $$$... :p

And you could spend a little more $$ and buy Synthetic 5w40 Rotella CI-4...

I'm not sure any CI-4 oil warrants double the normal price.

I agree, I think they are trying to rip people who are desperate to find it!! I am going to use my last 5 oil changes of the Mopar stuff I have stashed and also the Mobile Delvac 1300 CI4+. . then PB CJ it is!!

Before I gave up, I'd try another avenue. In fact, I'd probably try a couple truck stops as that will probably be a popular item...

I can't believe it is nearly $15 a gallon, since it is "old technology" if you know my meaning... the CJ-4 sounds like it is more involved in processing.

I just bought 7gal of the premium blue extreme 5-40 synthetic for 17bucks a gallon at Cummins, it is CI rated. NO WAY would I pay 15 bucks a gallon for ANY dino oil, especially if you have to buy 275 gallons. At that amount should be paying half that!!

I agree!!! I am no way doing it!! I think my NAPA is scared the stuff will not sell and thats why they want me to buy the entire shipment. I think thats the minimum they have to order and don't want to be stuck with it... I wish there was a way I could order it online! If anyone knows a way, let me know!

I'm going to order it from the local oil distributor in 5-gallon pails. I'll post when they quote me the price.

No way I'm paying any more than CJ-4 costs.

I will call Cummins on monday and find out what their 15-40 premium blue valvoline is going for, and I'll find out if it's cj or ci. I do agree with JHardwick and Steved that CJ isn't a problem, especially when you consider how often most of us change our oil (it seems like 3-10k for "most" guys). I change every 10k with a filter change and make-up quart at 5k, and I wouldn't have a problem doing that with CJ oil.

Having said that, I would prefer to have CI oil -vs- CJ oil. According to the write-up in TDR mag the primary difference between CI and CJ oils is the anti-oxidant and detergent "packages". CJ oils have less and/or inferior of both -vs- CI oils. BUT... does it really matter?? I dunno, time will tell.

??? why not just put in a oil additive, must be some stuff that
puts back in the detergent & anti oxident...

My guess is , if there is none today, there will be shortly.

V Premium Blue Classic

I may as well be looking for Elvis ... .....

In Louisville, KY this stuff is either not a good number, no such animal, or has been replaced by V Premium Blue.

I finally got one guy at NAPA to do a little research and he found it, Special Order Prepaid, 63. 45 per 5 gal. pail, thats a little steep at 12. 69 per gallon.

VV591839 5 gal. 15-40W

What is the price others are paying for this oil and where is the best place to get it?

amsoil

I was wondering if the amsoil guys "distributors" could give us their opinions based on company facts if the diference between the oils, CJ and CI is significant.

Because they will change the oil to a non-CJ-4 and therefore not meet EPA requirements...

Again, if you take the time to research actual UOAs, and not the assumptions of others, you will see the CJ-4 oils are protecting just fine...

Back to the oil test on CJ, if the oil won't hold as many contaminates as CI, that may be why it gets a better test. Rather have the contaminates in the oil rather than in the engine? This is just a guess, I haven't ran out of CI yet.

If this was the case, what would you expect? Sludge to form?

I can assure you that my valve cover is spotless with 40k miles on CJ-4...
