fyi-locking gas cap

just to let you all know. i ordered a locking gas cap for my y2k (part# 82400806) from mopar4less. this will not fit our cummins. this cap is definately for a gasser. you can get this cap to fit and lock but it is not a good fit. my opinion is don't order this one if your in the market.

I've got a locking Mopar cap on my 01 3500 and it fits great. The part # 1-05278655AA, it's dimensions are the same as the stock one. I got it from Mopar4Less.

metal tech thanks. i'll package mine up and ship it back for an exchange to the one your using. it has to fit better than the one i have. by the way does your cap have alot of threads or does it turn on with one thread on the cap. i hope i said that right. my stock cap has one thread and kinda turns on and clicks in.

the locking cap is identical to the stock cap where it threads into the fill neck. You do lose the use of that plastic tether to prevent you from leaving the cap on the road somewhere.

caps, and with exception to not having the
tether anylonger, I find it works good. I
was considering another type with a
combination lock mechanism, but at last
check, they were not avail for the 2001
Diesel.

When I sold my last car, I kept the locking cap, and put the factory cap back on. (I have no idea why I do these things?)
It was an 1987 Buick Grand National.
Cap fits and locks on the Dodge perfectly.

If you're looking for someone else to back MetalTech up . . here it is. His comments are completely correct . . with the part numbers, extact replacement and loss of plastic tether comments.

The locking replacement fits in the fuel door holder. If you place a locking and a non-locking model face down on a table . . you couldn't tell the difference between the two.

I suckered my salesman out of the locking cap and a drop-in bedliner at deal time . . so my truck has had its fuel entry orifice protected since 11 miles on the odo. Works perfectly!

I just bought the Mopar locking gas cap. I removed the plastic tether from the old cap, drilled a small hole into the handle of the locking cap and reattached the tether. Piece of cake.
