Initially, I timed my engine using a Miller dial gauge and found TDC using the over-adjusted valve method.
Since I was swapping my injectors today, i though I'd use a second dial gauge on #1 piston and recheck my earlier work. Low and behold it was exactly spot on. All of which goes to show, that the simpler method for finding TDC works really well if enough care and attention are employed.
