Good POST

Ok, evev though Tim has mellowed out some, someone has to take the heat off “old Tim” , so I’m putting on the flame suit.

First off it seems like most of the post that are bashing the G-56 are coming from guys that have not even driven one. Second, if you go back in time in the forums you’ll see the same thing before many times, just change the name, Getrag … no problems there huh? How about the NV4500 no problems there either, once you replace the main shaft and find where 5th gear went. NV5600 best trany Dodge ever put in the pick up, as long as you have the large input shaft and don’t mind double clutching. 47RE, been there done that. About half of the 168000 miles were with a TST fuel plate and nothing done in the transmission. Was that a good transmission? In my truck it was, but I know guys that didn’t get 70000 miles out of them. Why so I have a G-56 instead of the auto? Well I wanted the packbrake.

It doesn’t look like DC has ever done their homework before releasing a manual transmission for the Dodge PU. They probably never will. I’m sure my truck will end up the repair shop one of these days, if for no other reason than a clutch from south bend or luk.

I drove a truck with the NV5600 and decided to wait to get the new transmission

About the OD being a . 79, well empty it pulls very nicely from about 45 mph to 80 mph, in 6th, that’s when I backed out, it was still pulling pretty good. The mileage on the second tank was 17. 7 doing a hand calc. Not to bad since more than half of that was in town.

If Dodge takes my truck and says the’re going to replace theG-56 with a NV5600 because of the problems, then I’ll sell it and get an auto, packbrake or not.

If you want to bad-mouth the G-56, go find one, drive it with an open mind ( if that’s possible) and then slam it. Until then you comments really don’t mean much.

Dave

Dave Thanks for your thoughts, That is why I joined this site, Your information gives us something to consider.

Dave, Why don't you like the NV5600? I ask because I don't have either transmission, I have drove many diesel trucks some with Cummins some without But am looking to buy my first Dodge with a Cummins

Thanks Dave I hope this dialog continues

I agree with klenger

Can you imagine what would have happened if Tim got his truck and then it failed on his vacation :rolleyes: :{

Tim, I too am sorry if you are having problems but the way you are handling it is completely childish. I am reading all these different threads this morning and you are cluttering them up with your whining. Any opportunity you get you take a shot at Dodge or Tomeygun.

Moderators please reign this guy in.

Fellow TDR members, I agree with klenger. Lets move on.

Tim apologized to all and personally to Tomeygun, So it should be all forgiven you I sure appears Tomeygun has So why keep bringing this issue up by baiting. Lets move on to the the real reason this thread was started.

Anyone what to coment on some of us waiting till the G56's are releasted as it appears in may be near the time the 06's there may be good rebates on these G56's.

I would also like to hear from those few that have a G56

Thanks

I don't want to start anything against the NV5600, all I will say is that I only test drove one and that one didn't feel right to me. I also don't like where reverse is. So I decided to take a chance on the new one and I'm glad I did. I would have bought a 6 spd anyway, but after driving mine for a while, I don't think I would want to go with the other one. It's just my opinion. There are a lot of people out there that wouldn't give up their NV5600's, and I don't blame them, It's just now that I've got this one, that's how I feel now.

Even if they fix the bearing problem, you still have a somewhat noisy dual mass pressure plate that could be a time bomb waiting to go off.

I can't believe that you, being in the position your in at DSM, would put that in print.

Maybe DC could give the current dealers an option with their in-stock G56 trucks..... either a pass or fail real-world test by allowing dealers to take the G56 trucks to local truck & tractor pulls. If the G56 makes it until the truck stops moving the sled, it's a keeper. If it grenades, put the revised unit in it. :cool:

Tim, I waited almost seven months for my ordered '96 club cab. You may have to wait longer than that. Patience is a virtue. Please stop quoting the baits.

I take offense to this statement. Nobody offered a safe solution. I explored getting a friend to pull my trailer and I tried talking tommygun into loaning me a used truck (and I told him I didn't give a **** what it was, I told him I didn't care if it was a 2wd Chevy 3/4 ton, anything that could be hooked to a trailer safely, and I'd take it and bring it back). He said no. The other option was to put my truck inside a U haul. Not only will it not fit, but even if it would that is not safe as there is no way to tie it down. Nobody offered a logical solution to my problem and I didn't get to go.

Geez!! :confused: How come you could not tow that silly trailer with a U HAUL.

I'm not the brightest bulb on the string Oo. BUT it was not hard to figure out. :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

But obviously you were smart enough to figure that out ;) BUT : that would not allow you to whine and cry in your beer and all over the forum!!! :{ :{

Just MY . 02$

Two reasons. #1 is that u haul's trucks are not set up for electric brakes. That means I'd be pulling 8000+ lbs with no trailer brakes. Unsafe and illegal in most states.

#2, cost. It costs a minimum of $20 to rent a U haul truck and somewhere around $. 30 a mile. That's $400+ to rent the truck, plus the cost of fuel. I am not made of money and I don't have $1000 to spend on a four day vacation.

Sorry to say, there are no updates

only the little rumblings I hear from sources other than Dodge

(which I will not post because I have no factual information to back up such rumblings)

I have found out that there has been failures, But nothing that proves that EVERY G56 will fail... .

All kidding aside, it makes you wonder just how bad the issue is due to the tight lipped status of DC? Sounds to me like more of a bigger problem.
