Anyone have the Dodge GPS navigation radio if so how do you like it ???

Is it worth the $ 700. 00 that they charge for it or is it just a Dodge toy to sell a high priced raido ???????

Love it

Bought mine off of Ebay, if you can get it for $700 thats a steal. With my job I travel all over So Cal and I don't know how I survived without it. I have the RB1 and it only took me 10 minutes to install it. Others have voiced that they think the display size is to small, but I have found it very easy to read and understand.

If you can get one off Ebay for $700 it is a steal. I ordered my 04 Laramie with one and the option price is not much more than that. Of course it was on restriction and the factory deleted it to build the truck. Had to have one so I bought it from the ******* and installed it myself. Awsome unit! Powerful, detailed maping and routing. As BaaRamU states the display gives all the info you need without covering the whole dash. Visual and verbal turn instructions are clear and detailed. This unit will save your bacon in a strange city.

The navigation radio is the second most important after market piece of equipment on my truck. I've used it as far west as Portland as far south as San Diego and El Paso, as far north as Oskaloosa, IA and as far east as Goshin and Dallas. I love it and when towing with an overall length of 56 feet it's a lifesaver. Don't forget you can also have Sirius with that radio and read the artist and song title on the screen. Go back and forth between AM, FM, Sirius, remote CD player and Navigation with the push of one button and without interruption and with instant response. (I don't have the CD player) I almost always listen to the radio while the navigation function is on the screen. If I'm listening to Sirius and wonder who the artist is I push one button and read the song title and artist name. Then push the Nav button and I have instant positioning no matter how long I have had Sirius on the screen. Good pice of equipment and worth what ever you have to pay. One other thing, (IMO) the only people who think the screen is to small are the people who don't have it.

Just do a search for "RB1" or "RB1 navigation radio". I just did and found 1 starting for $750 with no bids yet.

Who does the software for the Mopar unit? How much RAM does it have, or does the map CD have to be in the drive to use it? Does it support autorouting?

Navtech does the data for the RB1. The entire 48 and part of Canada is on 1 DVD that has to be in the unit to navigate. The unit autorouts using several user specified methods: fastest time, minimize freeways, maximize freeways, minimize toll roads.

If you make a wrong turn (or decide to go a different way) the it will automatically generate a new route within seconds.

Highly recommended. By the way if you want to get back to the NAV screen without pushing the NAV button on the radio just hold down the function change button on the right backside of the steering wheel for greater than 3 seconds and it brings up the nav screen.

Does this radio also show your current GPS position if you go off road and your altitude? Just Curious.

map database is licensed from Navtech, Alpine does the core software/OS.

How much RAM does it have,

not sure exactly. I think it's a meg or two which holds the maneuver list for your current route. It needs the disc in case you go off-route and it has to recalculate.

yeah, there's a "GPS Information" option in either the option or setup menu. It'll tell you how many satellites it's locked on to (up to 8), your latitude/longitude/elevation, and current city.

I got the Garmin Street Pilot 2610. I believe it does everything the RB1 does, plus it is easily transferable to other vehicles, and is about the same price. 760. 00 delivered to me. Works better for me cause I drive 4 diff. vehicles. I have never used a GPS before, so its going to be a new experience for me.

I have the Garmin SPIII and love it. I also like the fact that it is easily transferrable between vehicles. Garmin constantly has downloadable upgrades and flashes on it's website and, from my personal experience, the customer service is friendly, knowedgeable and very hard to beat.

RB1 antenna mounting

The antenna mounts under the dash on a air duct. The instructions to install are very good. The antenna even comes with double sided tape for the install.

I interested in the RB1 too; however, my slide in camper covers the cab of the truck as far forward as the cowling in front of the windshield. I'm wondering if the camper overhang would block too much of the signals necessary for it to work properly.



I'm hoping I'll find one in my Christmas stocking!
