(GPS IN THE 04)

Saw a picture of the new GPS in the 04. Wondered if any one had one out there. If so would you tell how you like it? Who Makes it Etc??

RB1 Radio

I am pleased with both the Nav and Sirius radio,My only complaint

Is you cannot dim the Screen at night enough for me! but that is me!The antenna on my 03 is mounted at the back of the cab roof

in the middle A nd looks like A computer mouse to me. GWD

Points of interest

Yes Yes Yes Yes... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...

It most certainly does, too many points of interest catagories to list here.

GARMIN GPS IN DODGE

I wonder if any body out there has a inside connection to Garmin in Kansas??Wonder if Garmin has Plans to make a Unit that could be installed in our trucks???Somebody check on this if you can???

The Nav antenna is under the dash by the defroster duct. The factory Sirius Sat radio antenna is installed on the roof just forward of the "third" brakelight.

You can install the antenna on the roof or if you haul something on top of your truck you can mount the Sirius antenna on top of the hood. It's exactly the same color as the mirrors and other fiber glass parts (windshield wipers and vent) and looks kinda kool on the hood.

No, it will play one CD at a time but you lose the nav function without the nav DVD disk inserted. It will only play the nav DVD :(

Edit: I didn't read the question. I don't know what the optional screen is. Disregard the above answer. Sorry.

As klenger said they are different systems but what you see is one box that looks like it is all in one system. The other boxes are out of view.

Garmin StreetPilot III

I have the Garmin StreetPilot III in my truck. I also bought an '04 Honda Pilot (no relation to the StreetPilot :) ) with a built-in NAV system. I can tell you the Garmin is far superior and cost a third of the price.

In fact, it is so superior that I take the StreetPilot III out of the truck and sit it on the instrument panel of the Honda when I take that vehicle on trips.

I don't know who manufactures Daimler Chrysler built-in GPSs, but they'd have to go some to beat the Garmin, which has voice and all that other good stuff.

I paid $700 and change for the Garmin off the Internet a year or so ago. It was money well-spent and I haven't touched a road map since on local drives or long distance.

Plus, you can pick up the phone and call tech support. Try that with the built-in GPS!

What "other good stuff?" Voice prompts are present in the Chrysler nav radios (at least in RB1).

Er, Chrysler has a customer support phone # for their navi radios.

Streetpilot 2610

I have the Garmin 2610 with touch

screen installed in my truck. Over 5 million points of interest and can store all

California and more on a 250 meg.

flash memory. This unit has been more positively reviewed than many factory nav. systems.

Most likely a Superior unit a fraction of

the cost of a factory navigation unit!

DeLorme mapping (www.delorme.com) has some good mapping software and a GPS add on for a portable computer. The portable gives a much larger display and is moveable to other vehicles. With a portable you can also run other mapping software, DeLorme has one map program that shows elevation contours. There is also the Microsoft mapping program. I currently run three or four different mapping programs from a portable, the programs have different strong points (and weak points).

Just another option.

I have not tried the built in units, so cannot comment on them.

Some thoughts on this are the RB1 doesn't come in the truck as an option it is the RB4. RB1 has two cd's and does not have the map on the screen just the directions to where you are going. RB4 has dvd disc and a map of where you are. Only complaint is you can't just push the nav button on the RB4 and show you where you are on a map like my streetpilot does. To find places it works great and am still glad i got the option. Also the keyboard function doesn't work when the truck is in motion.
