Just wanted to pass this along. I took my truck this morning to the dealer and here is what happened.

The dealer put the truck on a lift (I thought for module), and proceeded to change my oil. I never asked for a oil change, but I got one. I asked the service writer why is he doing that. The writer asked "didn't you want an oil change'?. I said, just got one 500 miles ago. He said don't worry.

Then the mechanic changed the module real quick. He then drove it over the other side of the garage where the network drop is. hooked up the computer, read the codes, cleared the codes, but did NOT flash the ECM. I asked him why (he was polite and careful), and he said the recall instructions state to check for a certain version (AU) for my truck. It was there, and he said he has to stop there since AU flash is listed. There was a AV flash available in programmer but he said he cannot load it with G30 recall.

After that, they put a recall complete sticker and sent me on my way. Good service people, I guess since the instructions say what they told me (they showed me), must be what DC orders.

So for those who see no difference after the G30 fix, maybe they did not upgrade your ECM if you had the AU version.

Just wanted to pass along.

That is correct the Recall says that, and will risk chargeback if they don't follow those instructions. How ever if you were to get some intermittant condition that can't be duplicated they may be inclined to do the latest available flash for you ;)

That is correct, but he could have loaded AV and not under the G30 recall, most dealers have been told by STAR to flash everything with the latest cal... they'll get paid for it, so I don't know why they didn't do it . That is troubling that you did not get the latest flash, I'd say go back and demand the latest but that means you'd have to waste more time at the dealership... I wonder if you yell loud enough if they would flash your truck when you arrive - it is not that much work and only takes 10-20 minutes, at least you wouldn't be inconvenienced more than you already have been. Good luck.

G30 recall and AV flash

I had mine in to repair a broken rear tail light and the service writer came out and told me about the recall (I knew it existed but hadn't received my official notice yet) and said they were going to do it and it would only add 30 minutes. I said fine. When I got my truck back home I looked under the hood and it had a new reflash sticker with the AV code. I've had nothing but great experience with my Melloy Dodge service department in Albuquerque.

I had my truck in for the G30 recall on 11/30 and when I looked at the sticker under the hood it calls out the G30 recall as well as '55351235 AV' which I assume means they reflashed with the 'AV' programming. My truck was built in April, picked up from the dealer on 5/5 and had never been in for service. Other than the ETC light coming on a couple of times I had not seen any other problem lights. The ETC light came on when the truck was cold and after immediately starting the engine I turned the high idle on. I have not been able to tell any difference yet with the reflash... no MPG increase and the Regen's seem to be about the same frequency. I really wish there was more detailed information available about these reflash's and what is being changed.

TK,

My truck still does that same thing as yours, the ETC (throttle control) light comes on (lightening bolt between two bars) when it is cold and high idle is turned on. It does record a code, and the only way I can make it go away is to turn off the truck and restart. Then turn high idle on and it is fine. I explained this to the dealer and it is on the last work I got back from the dealer when they did the G30, but it says no lights after module change. I did it yesterday during the snow we have here in Oklahoma.

SB,

When my ETC light came on it wasn't really very cold even though the truck had sit over night. It only did it a couple of times and that was a few months back. I found that if the grid heater is pulling hard that its better to push down on the throttle to get the RPM's up to about 1,000 then set the High Idle. I doesn't create such a surge all at once on the electrical system. The light hasn't come on since I started doing that... you might try it.
