I don't have any complaints.

I don't even know what you're talking about.

Get the rear axle checked.

No complaints? That's an improvement :D

The original poster has a significant gear clunking, its pretty obvious in his initial post.

My Nv5600 has no clunk, but my SRT 10s (both of them) have significant rear end clunking when you roll on and off the throttle. Sounds pretty bad sometimes. My guess is the rears are set up with more than . 005 back lash (typical).

I have almost 5K on mine and I tow a 13K fifth wheel. I don't have any of the problems you are having. I can get a little "clunking" if I start out on a grade, in 1st, and don't hit the shift/clutch/throttle just right, but it just takes a little practice and experience.

Just returned, today, from a trip to the coast and I love the way this truck drives. Far superior to my 2001 with the NV4500.

If you are really have all these problems, you need to have a qualified dealer transmission tech look at it... ;)

Thanks Guys!

I really appreciate the feedback!!! It's interesting to see the range of thoughts / suggestions raging from "Mine doesn't do it" and "I don't know what you're talking about" to "Mine has always done it and I thought it was my fault" and "This is a heavy duty rig and you have to be sure to mate the engine speed to the wheel speed or your gonna get a clunk. " I guess what bothers one person may not bother the next person. I guess some people don't mind squeeks and rattles. Maybe another person doesn't mind wind noise. Maybe others might not mind or even notice a light vibration here or there. But for me, this driveline slack is too extreme.

Fast Forward:

After waiting 2 weeks to have it reviewed by the DiamlerChrysler District Manager I dropped the truck off this AM. I get a call at 4:00 PM EDT. from the service manager saying that the District Manager was very busy but he found time to test drive the truck. He and the Service Manager drove it and they concluded that the clunking from the driveline slack is not excessive.

I had told the Service Manager that I wanted to be present when the District Manager was there but apparently the District Manager didn't have the time to wait the 10 minutes for me to drive up there and display the exact symptoms that I'm unhappy about. This was a huge disappointment because I had told them several times that I wanted to speak directly with this person.

So the Service Manager talked with me for almost an hour (I just got off the phone with him) and he basically said that I can escalate the claim with DiamlerChrysler Customer Service OR I can be a little patient ("wait a couple months or so and just drive it") and let him try to find out what might be up when he speaks to the engineers throughout the week on other issues. He also said that he'd be monitoring the TSB's and Rapid Reponse bulletins. The problem I have right now is that they don't have one of these on the lot to compare it to and the District Manager, via the Service Manager, also said that he didn't know of any nearby that I could test drive.

This puts me in a impossible situation. DiamlerChrysler makes the truck, services the truck but can't assure me the truck is working right. I don't think it's right but even though I'm extremely displeased I concede that I could be wrong and this is the nature of the beast.....

What do you all think I should do at this point? Should I call DC Customer Service and spazz out? Should I just be patient and work through the service manager to see if he can find something out and hope he's not just stalling and putting me off? Should I call around to all the area dealers myself trying to find a G56 to test drive on my own... ... .

Thanks again for all the help, thoughts & suggestions! #ad

Welcome to the world of warranty repairs.

You will rarely ever come out on top. The district manager could have waited for you but they don't since they don't want to hear lip from unhappy customers when they deny their claim. The clunking should not be present and there is a problem. DC and every other manufacturer will try the same stuff, get out of paying a warranty claim. I would persue it further by calling DC customer service line. You most likely will get no where with them. If you are still unhappy, wait a few weeks for the service advisor to do something about it... Bring it is 5 times for the same issue. If you are still so unhappy, file a lemon law claim with a lemon law attorney. It depends on how far you want to go with this. Personally I would get a nv5600 truck if i were you, maybe after the warranty period, do a transmission swap :)

Personally, I wouldn't accept this proposal because I know full well that he would promptly forget all about it as soon as I walked out the door and I'd have to start all over again after my couple of months of being patient.

I have a g56, it seems fine. Previously I had a 7. 3L Powerstroke also with a 6-sp. More-or-less they feel the same to me.
