New member here. I've seen it posted but now ones asked.

I have been running gorilla juice tow in my g55 for the last 8k miles. It's getting colderish ( Texas) and I'm wondering if there is a fluid that would be safe to mix with my gj to maybe lighten it up. Rated a 85w-140 gear oil. Just looking to get through the pending winter:-laf of Texas and change after. Paid 152$ for it I want my monies worth. :{

should have used the amsoil MTG GL4.
that's what i would mix with and use from this point on.
mobile 50 is a great cold pore point as well.

Honestly TOO many horror stories about the GJ actually CAUSING damage to the G56.

My advice, since you are going to be draining fluid anyways, is to cut your potential losses and replace ALL of it with the Amsoil MTG or the Mobil Delvac 50.
I just did my 100k service with Delvac 50 and coudn't be happier with the quiet and smoothness of both up and down shifting, though note that I do live in a temperate climate with minimal cold temps.

PM LNaugle, to see what he thought about it, I'm sure he's changed it to another oil, but he did mix his GJ with some cheap (cost only) ATF+4.

So I'm going to go with member CKelley1 recommendation, which he has been running for a very long time and heavy towing miles. His oil blend is the Mobil delvac transmission 50 sae fluid and Royal Purple synchromesh, at a 50/50 blend. The trans runs close to the same temperature with the SHC DC or Pennzoil synchromesh in it, at @ 200*. The pennzoil synchromesh seems too thin and is not a synthetic oil, and at the high temperature the G56 seems to run at, that have been reported, have a wide range from 180* to 250* should require a synthetic. Knowing that CKelley1 has lots of miles on his blend, it will be the last oil my trans will see, I'm going to stick with it for the long haul.

Should have seen my oil after 45 miles of Gorilla Juice. Drained oil looked like someone had successfully mined for gold. Thankfully,I got that crap out of there.
We strained the oil afterward through a black t-shirt and there really wasn't that much. I can't imagine with a few thousand though.

Hey smart guys, I have read every where saying over fill g56 by 1qt. Bringing total to 7qt. What will it hurt to just use the full 8qt of Mobil delvac 50 I just picked up?

If you add the TransCoolers from Genos garage, while your fluid is drained, the 2 gallons of Delvac50 will be PERFECT and they will also help your G56 run cooler. You will need to fillf rom the top of the transmission (which means reoving hte center console and shift tower) or drive the passenger side of the truck up onto 6 to 8" blocks (or a sidewalk curb) to get the full 8 quarts in.

How do I know?? I just did it and it worked out great!!!

No matter what you have with oil capacity, fill it till the oil starts to ooze out of the fill/inspection hole then add one quart, if you overfill it to much then your seals could leak. Too many smart transmission rebuilders have recommended that, the type of oil on the other hand, will vary from rebuilder to rebuilder.

Thank you both. I got my oil today, drained to gj crap. When I did I noticed a smell that I have only smelt once before and that was when we drained my 77 fury transmission after 100k miles and having never been drained. The Gj was golden(I think) when I used it 8k miles ago. Today it was more of a maroon metal flake color. What I would assume (brass?). Drained it about 30 minutes while I tore apart shifter housing. Check CV boot and sealing. Poured in MD 50 7 1/4 qt. (Got distracted) and buttoned all back up. Yes I did use aluminum anti seize on the lower drain plug.

Thank you especially to RVTRKN for your talk over the phone and all the info in oils and the coolers. Once I can get my hands on a 4" dp and about 3' of 4" and and adapter I'll be doing the cooler and pump like you have done.

You may well want to go back and check the shift tower bolts in a few months unless you used loctite on them. Mine loosened up between the frist and second time that I changed the fluid and added the extra quart(s) through the tower and was seeping a little when I took it off last week. This last time I cleaned up the threads with acetone and used loctite.

Yes sir I will do that. I used red rtv in a small bead as a gasket and then torqued. I carry the tool with me and I usually checked them at 1000 miles after the fill. If they loosen up I'll use loctite on them.

Yup, I also used RTV as sealant on the gasket, but the actual bolts loosened up over time. In hindsight, there is a fair bit of vibration AND movement on that shift tower which must translate down to the plate held on only by those 4 bolts.
