If this is the case how does the 3:73 48re combo pass emissions at highway speeds

Your right. I forgot about that combo. I was just trying to figure out why dodge would not offer it.

I would guess if dodge really wanted a 3:45 ratio all they would have to say is "build it" and they would have one. I can't picture the sub contractor (AAM) saying "we can't do it". I did check out AAM site one time and they talked about all the gear ratios they offered in the different rears.

Here's a copy of an email I received from AAM in January of this year. They say the 3. 42 is coming.

Jay,

Currently there are only two ratio that fits into your Dodge 3:73 and the 4:10. The 3:42 is being developed. I am not sure if it will be in for the 2007 or 2008 model.

I hear many comments about the ratios that available and that many wants lower ratio for fuel savings.

OK, let's review ...

YOU went to the dealership and picked the truck YOU wanted, YOU had a chance to test drive a similiar truck ...

now YOU think dodge owes you a free gear swap because the truck YOU picked out and bought doesn't suit you ...

wow ...

NV5600 3. 73 to G56 4. 10 is 400RPM difference

NV5600 3. 73 to G56 3. 73 is 200RPM difference

A bug shield that scrubs 150RPM priceless!

Wrong (NV5600 3. 73 to G56 4. 10 is 400RPM difference) you can not get the G56 with 4:10 gears so the only difference your trying to make with SThorud is 50 RPM. You can only get the G56 with 3:73 gears.

Yeah, funny how that just gets overlooked in all the whining and complaining and threatening a petition.

I smell something all right, a whole load of BS and a troll popping up occasionaly with a a bigger load of it!!! #@$%!

The only time I figure you stand a chance suing and winning is if you bought the NV5600 and they switch you to a G56 for warranty, especially if you had the 4. 10 gears. That would be one slow truck, 2490 rpm at 70, 2845 at 80, 3024 at 85.

I wouldn't drive much over 60 with such a truck. You might sue to get them to install a GV overdrive, or cut you custom gears, or put in an auto.

Misleading somewhat - but recall? I doubt it.

I just went from an 03 to an 06. 03 had the NV5600 now I have the G56. Dissapointments between the 2 trucks:

MPG is terrible - hoping this changes with break in.

Cup holder is useless - sounds minor until you have a spill that would not have happened in the 03.

Improvements:

The shifting is so much nicer - so the transmission that hurts the MPG is also a plus.

Does pull hills better - again the transmission that is hurting MPG is also a plus.

More confidence in G56 life - my 5600 would run around 200F - too hot in my opinion - and it was missing part of a tooth on a gear. This was runs in the lower 100s and I hear that the forgings that the gears are made of are much better. Once again, the transmission is both good and bad.

Bottom line - I like the new truck better until I pull into the fuel station - then it irritates me that I was not aware of the worse milage when I bought the truck. Yes I could of done more research but I probably would have bought it anyway.

I do think DC has made a mistake. I the future I do think people are going to look back on these trucks like the old chevy 454's - "yup they sure pull good, and get 6 MPG everywhere you go" I wish we could get the MPG of a 1st gen with the power of the 3rd from the factory.

And anyone who is not concerned about the MPG should not expect everyone else to feel the same. One of the best things about having these trucks is the MPG combined with the abilty of the truck - effecient enough to drive daily - heavy enough to work. Take that away, and people will look for other vehicles.

Long winded, aint I.

What kind of milage are you geting?

I got 19 +/- with my 01. 5 with an NV5600 and 4. 10's. There's only an 8% difference in gearing between the NV5600 and G56. Since vehicle speed is a much bigger factor than engine RPM in milage, let's assume that the fuel efficiency loss with the G56 is around 4% (1/2 of the 8% gearing difference). I would expect a truck set up like mine, but with the G56 instead of the NV5600 would get 19. 2 MPH vs the 20. 0 MPG I'm seeing. I'm wondering how much of the MPG drop is due to high speed and heavy foot using all the power these new trucks have.

I read this post and I saw there is displeasure over the gearing on the g56, but how's it been holding up? I have had great luck with the nv5600's, and i'm realy excited that it might come back for 07. Where did you get this info, is there anything a guy can read on the new 07's. I also wnat to hear more more about the new 6. 7 CTD, anything a guy can rea online. I may have to wait for the 07's for sure
