Was talking to Peter @ South Bend Clutch today and he mentioned that he has a prototype kit he would like to try on a G56 truck to replace the Dual Mass Flywheel/clutch assembly. Anybody want to take one for the team? I would but don't have my truck yet. :(

Is it a replacement for the dual mass?

Is it a replacement or an aftermarket of the same breed?

Does it get rid of the dual mass?

Is it supposed to be a performance version?

I have a truck I'm lookin to mod very soon and the clutch is a concern, let me know some more info but would consider it.

How muchcost?

1)Its a replacement

2)Performance version

3)Gets rid of the Dual Mass assembly

4)Peter said there was no cost and would even rent you a car when your trucks getting R&R'd

Call Peter @ South Bend for more info as I am not affiliated with them in any way and don't want to promise anything/ give incorrect info, in case I am mistaken.

Ha geez tim, were you not a couple month prior praising the G56? Guess your not to happy with the inhouse DC junk.

:-laf :-laf :-laf Its new technology! It has to be great! I think I remember Tim saying something to that effect when I asked about the availibility of a non-computer chip key for the new trucks among other things. Maybe Tim is having second thoughts about the DMF

the trans might prove to be stout, but the DMF is pretty much pos to start with...

Actually, when I talked to Peter, he said that the DM set-up was a fairly well built unit and would be good for stock or lightly modded trucks, but wouldn't hold up to mad bombs(a mild box is about it).

... Dual Mass Flywheel/clutch assembly...

Could someone elaborate further... It sounds by the gist that this is a negative aspect of the design. What are the physics and theory behind this and why is the prototype a better alternative? Thanks.

I found a little more info about the dual mass flywheel. Also I learned that the new transmission is an all aluminum case as opposed to cast. Could this be the reason for the duall mass flywheel? Also- could the new flywheel be designed in as an effort to eliminate the "vibration" at high speeds inherent to the 3G trucks?

The dual mass flywheel is intended to dampen the engine-induced torsional vibration that's responsible for the "gear rattle" and other racket often associated with the NV5600. Frankly, I'd rather have a bulletproof solid flywheel such as has been used up until the introduction of the G56 and live with some transmission noise, but that's just my opinion.

Do you have contact information.

I want to try this clucth setup.

I dont like the idea of having to replace the whole mess(DMF) when it craps out.

I would still rather have an NV 5600. There's nothing wrong with a G56, but given the oppertunity to replace my clutch with something more stout without the DMF, I will definitely take it.

I used to work in a machine shop, and having had DMFs on the flywheel grinder, (yeah, I know you're not suppose to cut them, but we did what the customers wanted) I know how easily they slip. I'd say there are only a few things I'd change about my truck given the chance, and putting reverse where it, "Belongs" and a solid flywheel would be two changes I'd like to have.
