G56 Impressions

Can someone help me out here. I trying to figure out which transmission I have. It's a 6 speed HD standard called "DEE" and cost me $352. 00 invoice. Is it the G-56? Grizzly

"DEE" is the NVG transmission. I believe the G56 is "DEG"

BE happy, very VERY happy you were fortunate enough to get a NV5600 and "standard" clutch/flywheel, rather than the latest DC screwup - the G-56 matched to a troublesome Dual Mass flywheel!

In our industry, we call that "rectal cranium inversion".

I thought up-right was 7th gear.

Just look underneath the truck and locate transmission, if it is aluminum then it's the G56. On the other hand if it is cast it is the NV5600.

Let's see if we can simplify this issue. If your 6 speed shift knob has reverse to the right, you have an NV5600. If it is on the left you have a G-56. Also, the gear ratio for the NV5600 and the G-56 are not the same... .

Good try, but I think reverse on the G56 is right/down. I have been know to be wrong, and I have not actually seen a G56 in real life.

There's a thread floating around here somewhere that has a photo of a G56 shift knob posted by tomeygun that shows reverse as being to the left and down - to the left of 2nd gear. Also, 1st is now called "L".



Of course, I could be wrong - I'm 57 years old and CRS may have kicked in!

I hope this post finally puts the "where is reverse" issue to rest. What is more important is "what is wrong with the G-56 setup and when will Chrysler release our trucks that are here and waiting to be delivered...

Having read all the threads about the problems, I am getting happier and happier with my 03 with the NV5600.



As for getting old, I'm not ready for my second childhood. . I'm not done with my first one yet. I just turned 60, but don't tell my wife.



Sure hope this 6 speed stuff gets solved. I wonder if they can just go back to the NV5600. . What was wrong with it to begin with ?. . (. . have read the threads about just being a $$ thing and that seems likely)
