This is my 2nd attempt first one did not work.

I noticed my 05 3500drw shifter started to rattle and vibrate at 60 mph and over especially when loaded, I took it to the dealer, they said tires needed to be rotated (17miles), didn't seem right but they needed to be rotated anyway. Got truck back drove 50 miles still rattling. Look under the truck, G56 is leaking (dealer never looked under there), great, back to dealer. They replace output shaft seal, I asked what caused the leak, no straight answer, seal just wear out..... Next day I noticed leak is back. Has this happened to anybody else? My other truck has the old 6 spd, very smooth no rattling shifter.

My trans is not leaking, but it has aquired a noise that is coming from the trans, and it's getting louder and louder the more that I drive it. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but I'm trying to make an appointment with the dealer that I bought the truck from. If any one else has had this problem with the six speed, I would like to know also.

Noise in G56

My G56 makes a buzz/rattle in 5th gear. If I put a little pressure on the shifter, the noise stops. I have not gone back to the dealer yet. The truck has less than 3000 miles.

GRanney - did replacing the seal stop the shifter rattle?

My truck ('05 3500 dully) has only 10000 miles on it. Has this been a problem with the trans? I really like the six speed, since I backed it up with a gear vendor. :D But I'm not happy with the wine out of the trans. I had problems with the gear vendor and they replaced it with no problems, the new one works fine and I have no complaints, but the six speed is supposed to be bullit proof. Or am I wrong? :(

Thanks; David

The seal leak is the symptom not the cause..... There is either a clearance problem, out of balance problem, causing damage to the seal and thus leakage... . We've been around and around on my 04 trying to solve this..... we can't find the problem... . but we do add oil to the gear box every 5000 miles or so... .

We have checked the drive line, including checking it for length, (we shortened it) check u-joints, (replaced) carrier bearing (replaced) balanced (once, checked 2 other times), checked alignment on the shaft and angles, checked the rear tail shaft bushing, and still don't know the cause.....

So now we drive it and add oil.....

This reminds me of a Jeep problem I had. It had a full time type tcase(4lo, 4hi and neutral). It used funny clear thin fluid you could only get at the "stealership". I found a puddle of that stuff on the floor instead of where it belonged. Turns out the tcase had a vent with a filter on the end of a hose that stopped behind the cylinder head. That baby had a piece of paper like a coffee filter and would plug real easy and start leaking. The fluid would evaporate real fast so if you did not notice you would ruin the tcase. You could replace the seals all you wanted but unless you changed the filter or replace it with something else, same problem all over again. I went through 2 filters Got to find the source of the problem! Off my soap box now.

Repplacing the seal did not help the rattle. I'm off with a load to Atlanta Tommorrow (700 miles one way) me and a couple extra quarts of transmission fuid just in case... . Doesn't feel right with a truck thats 5 months old!

I'll keep you posted

i get a knocking in mine every now and then. the other morning it got really loud. popped the hood and couldn't hear it. i can only hear it when i am next to it. it goes away when i push in the clutch. it isn't so loud now though it comes and goes. also when in 5th gear it has a real buzz like rattle. only 23,000 miles any ideas? i'm thinking flywheel

my 03 had the same problem with the knocking. I took it in to the dealer and they replaced the clutch. It still made a knocking sound. . I then checked the fluid and it was like water so I had it replaced with amsoil MTF fluid and all the Knocking was gone. I now have 106000 miles on it and have changed the fluid at 22000 and 75000 miles. MY 06 has 3200 miles on it and I replaced it with amsoil ATF at 2000 miles . Alot of trucks knock.
