I read the owners manual on my new '07 and they call for ATF+4 in the trans. Is there anyone using something better? This truck has to last me a LONG time.

Motorhead, your correct on the ATF4. I did however drain out the factory stuff and install the AMSOIL ATF4 in mine the week after I got it ! Yours was made about the same time as mine, and like you, this needs to last!! I have had great results with the AMSOIL product in my other G-56 so decided to stick with it! Hope that helps!! Are you strutting that AE yet?? LOLOLOL

Install is also very easy. There is a Drain plug on the bottom and a fill plug on the Passenger side. Should take 6 qts or maybe a little more to fill !!! Mine took 6. 5 quarts before it started to run out the hole!

I feel I got the real deal now... Oo.

The regular ATF+4 is supposed to be full synthetic. Did the Amsoil make a difference? Did you change thr transfer case too?

Is there Synthetic in the front and rear diffs from the factory?

I've always wondered if you could get away with one of the thinner manual transmission lubricants like Amsoil MTF, Redline MTL, or RP Synchromax???

The front and rear differentials are synthetic... the front is 75w90; the rear was 75w90, however I believe they have rethought this and changed to 75w140 in the rear.

The tcase uses ATF+4, but I have been running RP synchromax with good results.

I changed both my transmission and transfer case out to the Amsoil ATF, truly made a difference. I also changed out my diffs to the Amsoil Severe Gear 75w140 in both. Hot climate/roads and tow a lot, so better to have the heavier weight fluids. You DO want to use synthetics in all your drivetrain.

This may be a stupid question, but i am going to ask it anyways. I have been wanting to do the change to amsoil in my G56. Is there a filter? I do filter changes all the time on car tansmisions... . just asking a question.

Anyone know how much the transfer case holds??

Thanks

2 quarts on the transfer case I believe and NO, there is no Filter on the G-56. I believe there are aftermarket ones you can purchase however. Hope that helps!!

I order mine online and I paid the $20 to be a prefered customer. It saves you quite a bit of cash and it is 20. 00 for one year... Usually arrives at my front door in 3-4 business days!! I live in So cal and they ship it from their distribution center in Las Vegas.

The transfer case holds 4 quarts. You can get the preferred customer status by signing up on the Amsoil site. They ship pretty quick, their products are very good.

I put 2. 5 quarts in my T-case and the fluid was runnin out! And 6 in the transmission! Amsoil made a big difference, shifts are nice and smooth!

I have thought of pulling one of thr PTO side plates and JB Welding a good magnet to the inside of it, clearance permitting.
