GJ is a gimmick, the G56 has several different metals, even to a point that several ground straps need to be installed to prevent electrolysis on the the gears, pitting them. There are much better options than GJ. It's a possibility that your trans is running hot, that will allow the aluminum to stretch and cause the gears to run out of alignment, CKelley1, has a good formula with high mileage on several G56's towing heavy, I recommend you send him a PM, before you waist your money on GJ.

Well just leaving for Tucson to have the DMF replaced with a SMF & SBC DD 3250 clutch and Standard Trans to go through the G56 and change out the ATF for Mobiltrans SHC DC oil with oil coolers from Geno's Garage, won't be able to report on it until memorial weekend.

FWIW, why did they go to GJ lite after selling everyone on the original GJ? I'm very skeptical of that oil, after a conversation with Lazereth, he tried to convince me that gear oil will work in any gear box, or a standard transmission, which is not true.

I'm flying home and flying back on Thursday night, Currently I'm sitting in Parker AZ and will leave early AM for the last leg of the trip. I have my 5ver sitting for the week on my return trip in Parker and get to take out the boat today and return with it next weekend and will see how it tows with a light load at 15K GCVW.

Partial update, Richard from Standard Transmission found the synchro's in good shape but bearings browned, indication of getting hot due to improper lubrication, WTF was Dodge thinking using ATF in an manual trans. He is replacing the bearings, but still no info on DMF or clutch, will update when I get the info.

Job complete, with the SBC SDD 3250 and solid flywheel kit as well as the trans inspection. As noted in the last post, bearings were browned and replaced, the trans filled with 8 quarts of Mobiltrans SHC DC oil and two trans coolers installed, with the exhaust side cooler shaved down to allow a heat wrap to prevent the transfer of heat from the exhaust to the trans. There is definitely more noise now, but the clutch holds with the regen issue I had when she surges after 2000 RPM during regen. So far its very impressive, but I now know why Dodge went with the DMF, I now seem to have a real truck but with all the noise. I drove it 270 miles on friday then 220 miles to my home in SoCal yesterday.

Yeah, reverse will be growly and putting through parking lots in 1st or 2nd is pretty noisy as well especially after a run and the fluid is up to temperature.
I tend to draw the shifts out too in order to not bog the trans. With the dmf you could bog the heck out of the transmission and not know you were straining it.

Third seems to be the worst for me and I tend to want to shift into third with the RPMs to be higher then 1500 RPM, any lower than that, I get the growl effect. I was hoping for the same shift feel as the NV5600, when starting out in 2nd gear, but the engine still wants to stall, if I don't add a little throttle, so I'm going to start out in 1st for awhile until the clutch is broken in.

RV, did you run overfilled with the ATF? I see you filled with 8 quarts of the Mobil, is over filling still necessary now?

I wonder if that's a 6. 7 thing? Mine always takes off idling in 2nd with no issues. If I'm on a hill I use 1st.

Regcabguy, the very first C&C I test drove was a G56 and it did the same thing, I've always had to feather the throttle when starting in 2nd. My NV5600 never needed any throttle in 2nd, so I drove the first test drive like my NV5600 and I never made it out of the parking lot without stalling it. I was hoping the SMF would change that, guess not. I contacted SBC and was told its OK to slip the SDD 3250 when starting out in 2nd, they seemed to know what I was referring to.

Nlsaacs, I supplied eight quarts of Mobiltrans SHC DC and a pair of coolers which takes a quart to fill them both, so its actually over slightly by a quart, but I will know for sure this weekend. I'm going to drain off the excess to see just how much and fill it over one quart with a lighter weight oil that TDR member Ckelley1 recommends.

Just curious, but what did Standard think about the Mobil? It probably don't matter but Eaton does not recommend mixing oils or using a multi weight. I used 15/40 multi weight for years but I wasn't a long haul trucker. I think the 50 weight will shine for heavy haul use like CKelly. So far I really like it in my rigs. I will know more about it in a couple of weeks towing a round trip to Montana.

My truck has the '0. 79 final drive which mimics a 4. 10 on an auto. Maybe that's why it launches at idle.

NIsaacs has a good point, but you also have to factor in the longer stroke of the 6. 7 has over the 5. 9 as well as the difference in G56 ratio's.

There is a big difference in weight, from a 2500 pickup v/s a 3500 Cab Chassis.

Well he didn't note a disclaimer on the receipt, but he didn't seem to care as well, (he didn't have an opinion). Being that it was approved by Mercedes he didn't want to argue that fact it seems. I paid a lot of money for the MB approved oil and will not use it again. I will follow CKelley1 advise and use his concoction that has been tested towing heavy, but I had already purchased the very expensive Mobiltrans SHC DC oil.
