This is just what I experienced from using gorilla juice tow. Rated weight is probably heavier than 85w-140 as even with being hot was still very thick. Below is what I experienced.

I got my oil today, drained to gj crap. When I did I noticed a smell that I have only smelt once before and that was when we drained my 77 fury transmission after 100k miles and having never been drained. The Gj was golden(I think) when I used it 8k miles ago. Today it was more of a maroon metal flake color. What I would assume (brass?). Drained it about 30 minutes while I tore apart shifter housing. Check CV boot and sealing. Poured in MD 50 7 1/4 qt. (Got distracted) and buttoned all back up. Yes I did use aluminum anti seize on the lower drain plug.

Attached is a picture of what I first see when I pull shifter housing off. Not sure what tech term is or if they are normal. Truck has always shifted relatively great unless in the city stop and go traffic light then it gets a little rough

I drained mine @45 miles. Lots of brass particles in that short time. Total junk.
I've been using Amsoil MTG for a couple of years now. Pretty slick stuff.

Where you running gorilla juice as well? Mine didn't make 8k. I think the gorilla is too thick and causing extra heat sense it can't really go anywhere. Roll over and noise is about the same but who can we kid with a 5" and no muffler rollover isn't really heard.

Lol very nice. Thanks to RVTRKN and his finding of the original transmission cooler I am working with a guy from San Antonio who is thinking of selling a full transmission cooler kit to allow us with g56 to mount pto covers, pump. Cooler and all needed parts. We are discussing a way to have everything needed but still allow members to chose where they want to mount instead of just 1 standard spot. For me I'm going under bed near fuel tank since I don't have a spare.

I used PensOil syncromesh for mst of the 250k + miles that I owned my 05 never had an issue. I tried all the other fluids and nothing worked as smooth or was as quiet in the gearbox. I now see that Royal Purple now makes the same fluid if I had the G56 that's what i'd be using. If the box is had to shift when it's cold the fluid is too thick and you'r doing damage some where. Factory fill is ATF yes it's too thin but then again auto slush boxes have gears in them don't they? They survive many miles running on that "thin" atf....

You have the cast iron case. Our G-56's have the aluminum one. With the smf conversion the engine spikes get transferred to the trans resulting in what's referred as gear rollover. Pennsoil didn't suppress the noise at all on mine.Mercedes recommends a 50wt synthetic gear fluid. Delvac 50wt synthetic is the closest to their specs.

I've been using Amsoil MTF at the recommendation of Standard Transmission, for 4K miles. They feel the Amsoil MTG is a little on the thick side for the G56. Shifts are fine, I still find it difficult to be consistent with smooth shifts with the G56. I guess that what to expect from a medium duty truck transmission.

I'm using the Delvac 50 which is the closest thing to Mobil SHC-DC, the recommended fluid for the G-56 per Mercedes. I am unable to hear, see, or feel any difference.

Thanks for the compliment, but I learned most of what I know here in TDR, and yes, some things I found on my own, but I've shared all of it here in TDR. The idea of the cooler I developed came from another TDR member, David Schmaltz. I refined it alot and utilized some OEM parts used in the auto equiped trucks, but its not my initial idea. If you pay close enough attention here in TDR you can learn a lot about your truck.

BTW, hows the Mobil Delvac working out for you?

Royal Purple !! My wife pulls rv trailers out of Indiana. Has been in 49 states, all Canadian providences and territories. 07.5 3500 two wheel drive, 6.7 and G56. 1.3 million miles with no issues. Junky old G56 rebuilt at 1.2 million and clutch Number 4 installed.

That is great! Is that with the original engine too?

That's amazing clutch life especially considering you have the higher geared G-56 compared to the earlier ones.

Original 6.7. Pan or heads never been off. Replaced turbo at 1.2 million miles and replaced #4 injector at 400,000. Needs injectors replaced now, but retiring truck to ranch. We are anal about PM. Have used Power Service every tank since new and Hot Shot Extreme Diesel treatment twice a month. Hot Shot Extreme Stiction Eliminator in oil every third oil change. Cleaned original turbo with Seafoam spray every oil change- exhaust brake even worked until shaft wore out at 1.2 mil. We have been extremely lucky. Been looking for replacement truck, but no new one as everyone seems to be having major problems.
