Codes and other problems that derailed a long-haul tow...

I've got a little bit of a problem. I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 4 by 4 with the G56 6-speed manual transmission. I just got a new slash remanufactured transmission put in the truck. I'm having issues shifting up from 2nd to 3rd gear and shifting down from 4th to 3rd gear got more than 20 miles per hour. I'm not sure if it's the synchros or not, any help would be appreciated on this subject. Side note, I just got a brand new Southbend dual-disc clutch and new clutch master cylinder installed with the new transmission. I don't think this is a break-in. Issue, it could be something rather more serious like a Synchro or Master gear. Thanks!

You think can troubleshoot my issue over the phone? Haha, I'm in Washington state

But you're asking folks on TDR to do the same thing just one post after another.

Blumenthals has a reputation as an authorized trans rebuilder. Possibly their tech support could assist but frankly this don't sound good. Previously rebuilt, cutting ties with that shop so no good info on trans condition as they installed and you cannot rule out some clutch related influence. Did it start acting up immediately or related to another repair? The outcome of any clutch performance has a lot to do with the components and a heck of a lot with the skill of the installation. Same shop install trans and clutch at the same time? Or two different situations?

What fluid is in it?

Yeah, I hear ya. The same shop installed both the Reman transmission and south bend dual disc clutch and a new clutch master cylinder. I had the clutch and master cylinder installed after the transmission, but only about a week or so later. The reason I cut ties with these clowns was because the technician working on my truck forgot to torque the bolts on the transfer case to the transmission. Needless to say, the out come was very bad. Here's some pics! I'll never go back

I’d have it rebuilt again, what else didn’t they torque

One typical failure by the shop is to allow the trans to "hang" by the input shaft while trying to align it and push it into place. That bends the hub of the clutch disc. May not be related to your problem. I would have Std. Trans and Gear in Fort Worth rebuild it if it were mine. Worth the trip to Texas (no pun intended).

Joe, what is the symptom of a bent hub?
I've been chasing a vibration at 70~80 for years.

Thx,

usually the clutch won't release well, hard to shift, grabby, etc. Probably not your vibration. Is it throttle sensitive? gear sensitive? Tire sensitive?

Thx Joseph. It's only speed sensitive - not RPM, throttle. Continues to do it if I throw it into neutral and it has done it through three sets of tires, two sets of stock wheels and two clutches! It does seem better with the latest set of tires, which are lighter than the last ones.
Over the years, maint and repairs have caused me to replace just about everything under the truck that spins. I had both drive shafts balanced too.
It also has a very subtle, low frequency hop or bounce at 41 mph. Tire shop put it on the rack (supported by axles) and couldn't see it at that speed.
I wonder if it's possible to have a bent axle and not have any other issues like leaking seals. Recently, I bought myself some cheap dial indicators to measure things.

Sorry for the hijack!

Scott
