High Idle Available for 06 Manual Transmission Trucks

New here, so don't shoot! I have to admit, I didn't do my homework real well on the manual transmission issue before buying. While my G56 has been trouble free (so far), I'd like to know IF it dies, could I force the issue with DC and obtain a NV5600 replacement? My only dislike of the G56 for my application, is the not quite (IMO) sufficient OD. I'm told the G56 is . 79, while the NV5600 is . 73. Any input or advice? Anyone here in the dealer/service world have input?

My old truck, a '97, had an auto with . 354's. It got about 20 mpg and weighed 6700 with the camper shell. My current truck, an '05 has a G-56 and . 373's and the last two tanks averaged over 18 mpg. I feel good about that milage since the '05 weighs over 7000 and has almost twice the power, well it does now :).

I guess it all depends what you want to use your truck for. If it's going to work, then it's geared right IMO, if you just want to get back and forth to work, then you probably should have gotten the auto, but I'm not sure it would have gotten better milage.

You are correct about the O. D. ratio.

It's nothing bad at all.

It puts your motor up towards intended high RPM operating range, and puts less stress on the drivetrain.

And getting the dealer to replace your transmission with the NV5600 not a chance in the world!

You can put your own NV5600 in though.

Getting the dealer to put a NV5600 in your truck would be like Ford putting a 7. 3L PSD into a truck that has a 6. 0L.

Oh yes, if you want a NV5600 you'll need to get an older truck or buy one after market, but it'll probably be more than a simple trans change

Dave

DC no longer has a contract with NV and does not install anymore NV5600's. You could swap transmissions with someone else if they are looking for a G56.
