I was wondering if anyone knew what changes were made to fit the new G56 6 speed into the third gen. I have a 98 12valver with an auto and was contemplating the cost of a built auto or just swapping to a manual. I work for a dealership so I can pick up a G56 for $2249. 00. I think this would be a cool swap but was wondering if the dimensions and bolt patterns were close to the nv5600. is the shifter in the same location? did they change the bellhousing bolt pattern? can i change the input shaft of my transfer case to match the output shaft of the six speed? This swap has always been at the back of my mind (since the transmission came out), but after i had the parts guy price one out i think i may be able to do it for around the same price as the beefed up auto. i have most of the parts for the NV5600 swap but i dont like the way it shifts (specially after driving one w/ a G56)

I have this idea in the back of my mind to go with a 6-speed on my '96, if I keep the truck long term and the transmission proves to be reliable in the long run. I like the idea of being able to go from 5 to 6 speed without adding 220 lbs of weight to the truck, and the transmission reportly shifts real nice.
