I am planning on changeing the oils in my trans and transfer case. The service manual calls for Mopar ATF +4 which sounds a little light. I would think that it should be at least a gear oil of some type. Any help on what you guy's are using would be a great help.

Thanks

Don't stray from the type of fluid that is recommended. Your synchros will not work properly with a heavier lube. AMSOIL makes a great ATF+4 and also has a hand pump available that makes filling you trans and t-case a breeze.

How about the Royal Purple Syncromax Synthetic that claims that it is compatable with items that use ATF.

Thanks for the replies.

I currently run the valvoline atf+4 and my g56 shifts much better and this is a full syn. fluid... ... WHEN the warrenty runs out I am going to try the royal purple Synthetic... ... it is about $9. 00/qt... ... the g56 takes 6 qts... ... The mopar atf +4 is a class 3 syn. and I beleve the valvoline is a class 4 or 5 syn... ... . The class 3 fluid is a mineral oil that has been made into a syn... ... AND the class 4 or 5 is a man made full syn. fluid... . SOMONE please add to this or correct me if I am off base... . trucksaledave

interesting ...

please post what you find about a true synthetic atf ...

i'm running mobil 1 atf and it made a noticeable diff in shifting ... per the wife she drives it more than i do ...

my local dealership (great bunch of guys) was under the impression that valvoline made the atf+4 for mopar ...

IT is my understanding that all Mobil products are mineral oil based products and most other syn product makers are... . that the reason the pricing is lower than say a Amsoil... ... Amsoil is a great product and I have been a user/dealer since 1992... . Amsoil's oil is a true syn. basestock, but I don't agree on all their products nor do I use all other them..... I do not beleve in any universal based products... . one size does not fit all... ... Again if I am off base... Please someone correct me..... trucksalesdave

I just changed out my G-56 to Amsoil and can tell it shifts better. I guess any fully synthetic would make it shift better. Trans. shifted great already, probably unnecessary, but went ahead and did it any way, and it did make it shift even smoother. I would NOT put anything but ATF+ 4 in it.

I ran RP synchromax in my NV5600 with very good results that turned very poor after only about 600 miles... the stuff got so bad it would hardly let me shift from gear to gear... I have also ran Redline MTL and Amsoil MTF in this transmission and the Amsoil MTF has given me the best performance to date.

I currently run RP synchromax in my tcase and it seems to work very well in that application... the case shifts from 2wd to 4wd easier than with ATF+4... and just a note, my tcase DID NOT come with ATF+4 from the factory... it had what I believe the GM boys call "grape juice", very purple and definately NOT ATF.

Here's what AMSOIL recommends:

NV5600 - AMSOIL MTF

G56 - AMSOIL ATF+4

T-case also calls for ATF+4

I've been running MTF in my 5600 for 40,000 miles now and it still shifts well. I change it every 25,000 since that is what I personally feel comfortable with. I didn't believe DC when they told me that the factory fill is good for 100,000 miles. No thanks.
