Sounds like spark knock

2014 6.7 surging issue

How did you get your 1 wire Temp sensor to ground out to the PTO cover?

I have a TDS billet aluminum cover on mine with a temp sensor location and I'm getting voltage and resistance but dont seem to get betting a temp reading from the trans pan. once I figure out this issue i can work on the rest.

I wonder why that is? I have the same trouble with my electric temp gauges. My mechanical transmission temp gauge quit so when I got the Edge CTS monitor I installed the sensor and it wouldn't work. They sent me a new one, still didn't work, so I pulled the mechanical out, installed a new Isspro gauge and same thing. So I installed another new Isspro sensor and grounded the gauge all the way to the battery and now it works. Same issue with my Ford and the engine oil temp, I never did get it to work. Even pulled the Teflon tape off the sensor threads, still nothing, so I give up:mad: Maybe it is an Isspro thing...

These things work on variable resistance. Any resistance from the vehicle ground to the sensor will change the Temperature reading. It could be that the vehicle has an issue with ground between the engine/transmission and the body/battery. Any resistance on that will cause problems. Add to that, the alternator is grounded to the engine as well, so there is current flow in that ground path. It would not hurt to have additional grounding if you think there is a problem there.

Thanks Michael, I will run a ground right from the pto cover (sensor mount) to the frame or maybe even to the battery. There are times it still goes whacko.
