Got my gages on tonight. Fuel Pressure acted funny. I only have 3 lbs!! , on idle and WOT. I don't really think it is working right?! What do you think? Also I can only build 15 lbs. of boost. I don't think that is right either for a 98. 5, but what about it??? Thanks. .

ps... I put an 18 inch grease gun hose on before the sender. All the wires are hooked up right and good ground. HELP.....

I checked that too. . The gage never moves. . It doesn't go up or down. . When you shut it off and just turn the key on it goes to about 11 lbs.

Gauges

I don't know about the fuel pressure, it should change from idle to wot. You really have to load up the engine to get full boost though. bg

many gauges are inaccurate at the very top and bottom of their ranges.

but given that you have 11psi w/the key on I'd say you have a bad lift pump.

as for the boost. . check for leaks.

3dracer, what type of gauges do you have. I have a autometer electric fuel presure gauge that did the same thing new. It was a bad sending unit.

ok,ok,ok. I got it now. The hose had some sort of blocking in it. I took it off and I could't blow thru it. So I bought another one from somewhere else and it works. NEW FILTER readings show 6lbs. at idle. and about . 5 lbs. at wide open. Looks like I need to get me a new one..... Right? Also 1200 degrees and 15 lbs. of boost are the numbers... Thank you to all. By the way, McMaster Carr is where the 1st hose came from. .

What about the fuel pressure readings?

Mine's a (stock) 2001, and I get 14 at idle and 9 at WOT. Max exhaust temp is 1050 with 20 lbs boost. I checked calibration on all my gauges before installation, so I'm comfortable that the numbers are accurate.

BJ... If it's under warranty, take it to the dealer. If not, or you've modified it with power options... get a pump from Cummins and install it yourself. Also, you should be seeing more than 15lbs of boost. Make sure you don't have any leaks in the boost hoses all the way from the turbo outlet to the manifold inlet. Low boost will also raise you EGT temps... ;)

low boost

Low boost could just be happening because of the lack of fuel. Less fuel means less exhaust output volume. Less volume is less flow through turbo. Less flow through turbo is less boost. The timing is probably being adjusted by the computer for the underfuel condition too. Replace that lift pump and see if that helps.

BJ,

Check your lower hoses. 15psi is 10psi below the stock wastegate threshold.

Check the turbo for bearing/end play and scoring on the compressor housing (long shot).

1200 degrees on a stock truck when empty... something IS wrong. a stock turbo should see 20-22 psi boost. with a good fueling box and boost elbow you should see 32-36 psi.

17psi boost max

and

1050 deg F max

is all I can get out of my new one (see bottom)

(stock numbers)

is there something wrong??

i cant find any leaks

just put on DD ultimate box

level 5 x 5 shoots the egts to 1400 right away

(no other mods)

32 psi boost max

what is the cheapest and easiest way to get the temp down????

I will check all hoses tonight. I knew something wasn't right. . If I take it to my dealer, will I have to pay for labor? Or is it all payed for? IfI have to pay for labor I can do it. The turbo looks good inside. NO play (excessive) on the turbo fins. Schied Deisel said they could do the warranty work here in Effingham. I would much rather take it there than to my dealer,---THEY DON'T HAVE A DEISEL TECH!!

Thanks
