Gages

I have a 2005, 3500 dually, LB, Quad cab with 23,000 miles on it, we pull a 5iver

and our combined weight fully loaded with 85 gallons of fuel is 22,000 lbs. The truck has performed far above my expections including the mountain driving we have done with it auto trans, 48RE. After reading a couple of articles concerning the need to watch transmission temp have started to wonder if I should add a transmission temp gage. My son-in-law has the 2004. 5 short bed SWB with the auto and he is also wondering about the need for the gage. Please provide any feedback you can on your ideas as to the real need for adding the gage, so far both trucks have pulled heavy loads under many road conditions without problem and without even so much as a warning light coming on. Thanks for the feedback.

I have a 6 speed and have always towed heavy with a manual, but ... ... ... ... without a gage on an auto you won't know your hot until it pukes fluid and smokes.



Is a guage necessary? No.



Can a gage pay for itself?

Don't forget a pyrometer also, to watch the exhaust temps.



I would recomend a transmission temp gauge. You might be surprised how hot it can get. Especially when backing up, even at half that weight.

If you put a pyrometer on see what kind of temps it registers when you tow up some good grades. . pre turbo. . just curious how high the temps runs stock. .
