Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Gains of muffler vs !muffler on a stock truck with 4" exhaust?

What are the comparable gains for hp/tq, mpg, EGT, etc... for identical 4" exhaust systems one with a muffler and one without? TIA

NADA.



You might see EGT differences, maybe turbo spool up times, but no HP/TQ changes.



Diesel power is not affected by opening up the exhaust like the gassers are. We have to add Fuel, and Air to make changes.

Yea right !and I have some ocean front property in central Canada.



If the stock system was say a 2inch and you wanted to go to 4inch you would gain but the stock system is adequate to a fairly reasonably hp number. The change is your choice but a waste of $ if you are at a lower hp.

I agree it will make a difference. My guess would be it won't make a noticeable difference in my above catergories on a stock/nearly stock motor though.



In any of the TDR testing of exhaust systems has there been a back to back with these 2 setups?

Muffler or Not!

It all depends on the muffler and the design of the muffler. Our muffler is a straight thru design with our Spiral Flow louvers, it actually helps evacuate cooling gasses to re swirl them and get out of the system a little faster than a perforated or straight louvered muffler. Then there are the mufflers out there that have louvers facing both directions, some that have sections of the 4 inch center pipe cut out, a lot with little or no packing material or packing material that will blow out over time etc. All of the previous items mean restrictions, running test with and without this type of muffler will net you differences. We have run ours and the with and without differences are almost not measurable. call us if you have ny questions.
