We plan on visiting there for Christmas. Any comments on things to do?. Places to go?Good places to eat?Haven't been there in ages... . Thanks.

Unfortunately you have missed Dickens on the Strand this year. Check out Moody Gardens and there is a Flight Museum right next to there. There is a WW-II memorial with an older Diesel Class sub and destroyer down by the Texas A&M research station. Fun to walk through if you have never been. There is also a Railroad museum. lots of old train cars you can walk through. If you like army surpus stores. Look for Colonel Bubbies on the strand. Heck just go walk the strand. Lots of shops and things to do. There is a Tall ship "Elisa" docked down there as well that you can walk through.



For dinner you have to go to Guidos. Its a seafood resturant just across from the sea wall as you head west down the coast.



Depending on how long you will be there. NASA is just up I-45 in the Clear Lake area. Lots to see and do.

Catch the ferry to Bolivar peninsula, there are miles of beach you can drive.

While in Galveston go to the Peanut Butter Warehouse for shopping. It is three floors of great shopping. . Galveston Harbour Tours,Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum. Pelican Island, Texas Heroes Monument. We love to go and just enjoy ourselves on the beach. Have a great time.

Don't pass up eating at Gaidos. Clarys is also good a little less expensive but really fresh seafood. It is on the other side of the island.



If you get tired of seafood, check out Marios. They still chunk the pizza dough in the air.



If you drive out West towards San Luis Pass stop at the Captains's Table. They are known for Flounder dishes. They also have an outside thatched hut bar. It is usually screened in with plenty of heat going this time of the year.



If you are not haulin the kids you can check out the Poop Deck on Seawall Blvd-if you imbibe in adult beverages. It can be an adventure- bikers sometimes. It has been there for about 35 years. Dont ring the cowbell hanging from the wall-it means your buying for the house. It can be smoky, but you can walk out on the deck-nice view of the Gulf.

The Moody Gardens and the Flight Museum are awesome, if you like WW-II airplanes the Flight Museum could be the highlite of your trip, WOW they have some incredible planes.



Galveston isn't far from Houston proper at all. As mentioned before, NASA is in Clear Lake, drive on in to Houston and you can visit the Battleship Texas / San Jacinto Monument, also there is a great natural history / science museum. For the womenfolk who like to shop, Houston has a Galleria shopping center full of all the ritzy stuff that such places have. Houston traffic really sucks at the rush hour times though, plan ahead.



Out on the west side of Houston on I-10, there is a Holiday World RV dealership that is one of the very few in the Southern states that carries Arctic Fox truck campers, 5vers and trailers. Maybe not a "normal" vacation destination but fun to look at if you like the RV scene.

Dont miss the museum for the BIG STORM which caused 1000s of deaths and the old sailing ship tour which is next door.
