The Bill of No Rights

Oh CRAP! He got me!

I want to replace my 235/75R16's with larger tires. Problem is with a tall cap its only 2" below my 8' garage door. Any idea how to raise the door. I have it adjusted for full lift as it is !

Dennis, most have switches on the opener drive guide that tell it when it is up and when it is down. You can try moving the "up" switch back toward the opener a tad, see what that gets you. Just mark the original location so you can put it back if it is not what you wanted.

Don't even consider messing with the springs if they are the coiled ones on the header, they are bad news.

As a Builder I will say to you Your in for alot of work to get a taller door there are many many options and sinerios. and even the possible fact that You may not find the cost worth the benifit. Call a reputable contractor and get references if you decide to let him loose I also advise to never ever give up front money. if he is worth his claims he has the means to procure the help and materials needed. a job like that I would do as a pay when done deal with a written contract. good luck

Will your truck fit through the opening if the door isn't there? That is, is it just last bit of the door hanging in the way that's holding you back? If that's the case, you should be able to rig something up.

most door openers are for 7' tall doors. if you have an 8' door you will need an extension kit to lengthen the track on the door opener. i just did this last weekend on one of mine. the old door opener burned up and when i replaced it i bought the new opener (Genie) and an extension kit. it just added another foot into the track and the opener motor mounted about a foot farther away from the door.

its great. my door now opens all the way past the actual opening on the garage.

contact the manufacturer or hit home depot or lowes if yours is new enough. mine was a 92 model. now i just have to scrape up another $250 for the other side :D

The door is an 8' door. I have adjusted the up all the way so there is no more up to go. I installed the door myself, including the perilous wind up springs, I am no stranger to that. I think that I miscalculated the new tire height and that I will be ok without messing with the door. If you removed the door, you would get another 6 to 8 inches of clearance.

I was thinking if I just moved the tracks up an inch or two that would solve the problem.
