This type of thing is very popular because of the farming culture in the midwest. John Deere and IH rivalry is very existant around here. Kids (and adults) like little tractors... and its a natural progression I suppose. Tractor pulls go back along way here in the corn belt.



I remember garden tractor pulls in my home town when I was a kid. The volunteer fire department would have a fish fry and garden tractor pull each year. It was a big deal for such a small town. That was back in the late 70's... early 80's. Hundreds would show up. They were simple back then. Take a wheel horse or a cub, put some big tires on back, a straight pipe, and take the governor off. Then go pull!



As a young child... you could imagine how neat it was!! Heck to this day I have 3 old Cubs because of those times!

We have garden tractor pulls at our spring and fall shows at the Pioneer Steam & Gas Engine Society show in Saegertown, Pa. The summer show has antique tractor pulls instead. I'm a director in this club.

So... How are these guys are keeping up with these things? That's an awefully brisk pace to run/walk behind a tiller... .

Way-Way-Way back in 1986 I bought a new 314-8(300 series,14horse kohler,8 speeds). At that time wheelhorse would send out a small magazine showing their 416 as leading in the pulling series with a stock transmission.

Matt, reading the rules it seems like some people don't. Rules say you must be in control of the machine and have a kill switch rope attached to your wrist.

The world record for the 50 yard (150 ft)dash is 5. 4 seconds, these guys are almost breaking the record even with a machine in front of them. It could be they are getting drug the whole way.

my father has a 108 cub cadet at home minus a motor, Ihow much work it would be to put a 40 hp diesel in it? Just a side note, some people will make ANYTHING into a competition!

Probably a plate for him to stand on. there are lawn mowers where there is a plate to stand on that is a skid plate bottom...

They have to be getting drug, the fastest human being runs only 18 miles per hour.





1. Rule #1 First and foremost always is SAFETY. Any tiller or tiller racer that is determined unsafe will be disqualified, and will not be allowed to race.

2. Racers must sign release forms before race.



3. All racers must wear shoes.



4. There will be no riding of tillers.



5. Racer must be in control when finish line is crossed.



6. A three second penalty will be accessed if tiller strikes barriers between lines.



7. Only essential personnel are allowed in pit area. That is the owner and racer only.



8. In case of a tie, a run off will take place.



9. One Tiller- Per Racer- Per Category. If you have more than one tiller in a category, you must have a registered racer for each tiller. In the event a racer cannot continue to race you may assign a new racer for that tiller, but they must have a release form signed.



10. All races started will be considered official unless both racers are unable to complete race. In this case a re-run of that race will occur.



“ ABSOLUTELY NO ALCOHOL OR DRUGS WILL BE PERMITTED AT RACE”



Modified Divisions:



1. SAFETY FIRST! All racers must be able to control their tillers.



2. Must have kill switch attached from the racers wrist to the ignition of the engine.



3. Safety inspection and drivers meeting before race begins. YOU DON’T SHOW YOU DON’T RACE.

Bringing this back to life for good reason. Check out this link with video clips of Diesel Cub Cadets pullin 12" single bottom plows. The black smoke should be obvious on the three towards the end of the list. The sounds of the yellow and white smoker are cool too. Sound alot like a Cummins instead of a Kubota diesel.
