Gentlemen:::: Thanks for a Great article:::: I have just ordered a Garmin 378... . it will be used in my 03 Dodge Ram Auto 4X2 and my Boat... . I wanted a unit i could remove to another vehicle quickly. . I'd like to see some Pictures of YOUR Mountings in YOUR Trucks? Since i like to FISH I hope it will tell me to Turn Right (Not Left) like the guy up above who was always (Turning Left) haha, (ON TOO A SCHOOL OF FISH) I now Have a GARMIN 168 GPS and FISH FINDER . ( FOR SALE) If you are interested ... . Contact me at -- email address removed --
Each type of GPS has its pros and cons, but I'm definitely not impressed with Tom Tom. I bought a Palm TX (wide screen capable) and loaded the Tom Tom software on it (same software that comes with their stand alone units). My experience is that if you want to find a restaurant in the city, or a city address, this unit would work for you. If you get out into the country it is not a user friendly.
Although the unit says you can program "vias" into the route, just about every time I do that it ignores them and tries to route me down a route that I don't want to go. This has happened even in the city.
I planned a route up into the Northeast part of Washington, and it tried to route me over logging roads to get to where I wanted to go.
If you need customer support, you're in for a treat. This unit was built in Europe and their support reflects this... JMHO...
Wow that's odd. Customer support has bested my expectations. I had a mount go bad on me and they sent me one out next day air ... . FROM A VOICE MAIL . . and all I did was leave my SN# and didn't even speak to a rep As for the software I have heard that their stand alone software does have some issues especially when it comes to reroutes. It may very well have something to do with the reciever??? I use mine daily as I am on the road non stop now 8. 5 hours a day and for the past 3 months I have not had one mishap.
One gripe I could maybee whine about is it's signal aquisition when first powered up in the A. M. That and the fact it does not have AMERICAN Verizon wireless modem strings built in for data transfer and live traffic info.
Hey Guy's i got a 03 with stock radio. . id like to run the output audio from my garmin 378 into the stock radio. . Has anyone done this?? if so where and how do you hook up the units?? tks Doc... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... .
Dont know if you've checked on yours but the Garmin website has software updates that you download. Probably has one to fix that bug as well.
I've got a Garmin 330 and love it. Use to use the laptop with gps and that's great as well but not very portable and takes up alot of room in the truck.
