Anybody else having adhesion/soft paint problems, particularly with Garnet Red? I have a Sept '00 built 2001 model from St. Louis plant.

This paint is really soft and chips/scratches very easily. I was successfully ignoring this problem until Saturday when I drove through a big rainstorm and found a dime-sized chunk of paint missing from the side of the hood where there had previously been a small chip. The original small chip had had loose edges to it, now the dime-size spot has loose edges as well. I bet I could strip the entire hood with a pressure washer .

Haven't tried the stealer yet but I'm not expecting much cooperation.

Paint Prob.

I have a sep. 00 ,2001 dark garnet and silver qc Lb made in st louis also. no paint probs. as of yet. (lot of orange peal from fact. though) there paint teqnioque has a lot to be desired though.

had it 13 months. but we didn't have a rough winter this year. we'll see this year. personally i'd take it back and shove it down the stealers throat. that IS a fatcory prob. !!! good luck

I have very chippy paint. Rocker pannels are very bad. Mine came from St Louie as well. It most likely is the way they want it, 2-5 years of payments and it is all rusted, just buy a new one...

and to think that DC brags that they only use three quarts of paint on our trucks... . Mine is thin, but I would rather have ugly paint than rust, over spray and paint fallin off. Several areas of my truck when you get up close you can see that the paint was not a complete cover over the primer.

Mine's a '94, the red (don't remember the shade) is still good, but..... the Driftwood is coming off all over down to the metal. Started last year, don't want to wash it anymore!

Ready to sandblast it and paint it Camo.

paint

I have an 01 built in Mexico but I don't know when. It is patriot blue. Lots of marks in the clear coat. It seems that the clear coat is very soft. I leaned over the bed to pull out a bike and my t-shirt left marks in the clear coat.

How do you know the date of manufacture?

Your build date should be on the sticker on the drivers side door jamb. I have the DC service manuals, if you want to post you VIN I can decode it for you. Yes the clear scratches easily, but being soft the scratches also wax out easily as I found out on the weekend.

I haven't brought my truck in yet but over the phone the stealer said they would do a paint thickness test. I tried to explain that it is an adhesion not thickness problem but he didn't seem to understand .

Mine was built in St. Louis in November of 1999. It is black and the paint is great. It is outside all of the time (does not fit in my garage). I wax it Spring and Fall and wash it at a car wash when it needs it. Truck still looks like new (except for the hail damage) :) but the paint was not hurt, just has some dents :D

I have a 01. 5 St. Louie garnet red. I also noticed the paint is very soft, no peeling problems yet. Hope they don't start!!

pealing paint

mine is a 01 bought in may ... driftwood... the paint on the box, front bottom corners left and right where the sides curl down and join the front panel has pealed off I dropped it off at the dealer yesterday dealer said it was covered ( have 46,160 mi on it) I was also getting lots of chips on the rocker panels and fixed the front with running boards! the back is still getting abused no mud flaps yet:{

All

I think this is a problem with ALL makes, my buddys Pford has the same loss of paint that my 95 has. My roof is starting to peel.

Pretty simple paint job for the roof, easy mask, and shoot. Will probably do it this winter, after major garage clean up.
