Garrett Powermax turbos

You have MY attention SPILL YOUR GUTS!!!!!

Fix your sig and let us know all the gory details-- EGT reductions, spoolup, etc etc etc...

You know the drill.

They are the new ball bearing garrett water cooled power max series turbos. Thay have three stages of turbo and they work great . Call me if you need any info as we are a power max dealer

01 3500. Running a caTCHER, and Massdiesel 180hp EDM's. No box. AFE Torque Tube and an Airaid Filter. The turbo is the stage 2.
Spoolup is very similiar to the HTB2 / Phatshaft turbo's.

Highway running 70, 5 lbs of boost and 650*. Foot to the floor is only hitting 1300*.

Wastegate is set at 40 like most others.

The compressor wheel is very agressive looking. Compressor housing is much "beefier" than the others.

Sound is GREAT! Has a much different whine than I am used too.

Thanks Scott!!!!!

4" downpipe with an HX-35 flange...

I will make an adapter to get the 40 pipe back on...
Are you saying the Jacobs turbo-mount exhaust brake will bolt up to it?? Oo.

Rusty

I would think so... How much, I can't say...

Being that it is new to the Cummins market, Garrett I'm sure will offer different options once they receive some feedback from the user.

I am sending some pics of the downpipe from the 40 to a contact at Garrett.

Please explain what "aggresive looking" means for performance and how the much "beefier" comp housing translates into a performance benefit.

How is the turbo tied into the cooling system?

Brian

Sounds good :) I've got a stage II also that I'm wanting to install ASAP. Hope it works well. We've got 7@. 012" injectors with an edge drag comp hot box. Should be plenty of fuel.

Does it spoolup nicely, pretty linear?

Didn't say it had anything to do with or without performance.

You would have to see them in person to understand what I am saying.

The only wheels I had around were from a 35 and a 40. The Garrett wheel is bigger in dia and is taller when side by side.

Sorry, I was being a smart mouth - I did a 6 month internship at Garrett back in the day. Actually did some of the aero testing on the GT series.

Brian

How many pennies do you have to drop in the jar for one of these, are they comparable pricewise to HTB2?

Have heard good reports of the Ball Bearing GT series in othe trucks, did not know they had one for the cummins, the stage 2 & 3 sound okay.

I can't decipher compressor maps but can someone overlay the compressor map and compare it to say a HTB2 or a SPS 62?
