A very good friend has accidently pumped 15 gallons of gas in his 4 door megacab 4x4 2500 auto. :{ He said that there was a quarter of a tank when he pumped 15 gallons of gas in it. He did not realize it was gas and drove off. He drove about 3 miles when it started to act funny, realized he pumped gas in it and shut it down. I hauled it home on my flatbed trailer but we had to start it to get it on. The truck did not start right away, but it did start. We unloaded it and parked it in the shop. What is the easiest way to empty the tank? I figured we would siphon all we could out of it, remove the fuel filter, turn the key on and let the pump drain the rest out of the tank. Add pure diesel back in the tank and turn the key on to pump it dry . I thought we would do this 2 to 3 times. Any thoughts ???

The fact that it was started and run may have caused damage to the injectors. Your suggestion is good, siphon what you can and then drop the tank and clean it out good. I don't believe I'd bump the starter because you will only introduce more gas into the injectors and the cylinders.

I hope someone with actual experience will chime in here to take you to the next lever.

What year truck is it?

Good luck, george

You need to purge the complete system, drop the tank open the fuel line drain it and change all filters. Fresh fuel and turn it over try to purge anything left in the injectors.

The other option is to take it to the dealer let them purge the system and if they give it ok and something fails in few miles than it's their nickle if they will give you sometime of warranty on the work performed.

The truck is a 2010. Thanks for the help it is going to get cleaned up soon. Would it be recommended to put a conditioner in the new filter, if so what kind that would help lube the injectors because of the gas.
